hey all

recently my lc5 has started losing power under heavyish acceleration, I dnt get any lights up and seems to regain normal power if I release and go normally. but will happen again if I try any heavy peddle.
I had full service last year (approx. 10k miles) so any suggestions easy check for?

thanks
russell

Sounds like fuel starvation to me. I'm no expert on the 120 but the 80 has filters other than the main fuel filter. One in the tank, one or more in the pump. Flexi fuel hoses can also delaminate and suck in causing fuel starvation. Start by changing your main fuel filter, then inspect the sock over the fuel pipe in the tank, then inspect any fuel hoses that could be damaged.

little update... had the fuel filter changed, managed get down to a quarter of tank and thought refill with some ultimate and cleaner, now feels worse, almost like no turbo.. very sluggish/restricted feeling. any other ideas?

Check for boost leaks which usually show themselves with a light misting of black oil somewhere it shouldn't be .

have changed air filter, unplugged maf sensor and drove, very slight improvement but still super sluggish. can hear turbo spooling. checked hoses, not sure where turbo is to be honest.

How about cleaning all the sensors and those little air filters that go in the vacuum lines

so it seems the suction control valve is faulty, Toyota wanted £675 for the job. sound reasonable for that? I'm thinking a lot is labour too?

Sounds steep Russ. In honesty I've never had it done, it just sounds steep. See if you've got a local diesel specialist who'll likely fit an original part but should be far less than Mr T.

That's a bit better than £675 Russ. Just make sure it's completely clean around where you'll be working and it will all be good. :)

Russ

It sounds like i'm have the same issue with my truck.

Can you tell me if replacing the SCV valves fixed your problem?

Regards
Gary

hi gary

yup all seems fine now. I ended up just paying Toyota as the garage is just around the corner literally and the car had got so bad even 50 mph was a struggle on flat straights.

cheers

Hi @StarCruiser. Just been reading your post above as I'm having real problems with with loss of power under load (see thread my thread) and I noticed you mention that there is a 'filter in the pump'.

Loss of Power - Fuel Contamination OR Fuel Pump Issue??? - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]

I've pumped all the diesel out, cleaned the filter sock ( which was clogged) and replaced yet another fuel filter, but problem returned! It ran fine with steady driving for several miles, but as soon as gave it a bit of welly! it just started to die and splutter (bit like limp mode) again.

So I was wondering about this filter in the pump you mentioned, which I wasn't aware of..... Is it accessible? can it be cleaned? or is it a new pump?
Many thanks
J.
