Letter writing is important because all our respresentatives think we don't
care because the Ramblers are vocal and we are not. LARA
(
http://www.laragb.org) is most central but we have been very lax on this
thinking we had reached agreement with defra and the Secretary of State, Jim
Knight. Then under political pressure he stabbed us in the back and stopped
being the voice of reason he initially was. He knows we are being stiffed
but as long as the MPs think there are more votes on the Rambler side he'll
not stick his neck out.
We don't seem to have any strong support in either house. That I suspect is
because they think they would be going against popular opinion and it isn't
a big enough issue to stand on principle for. The more they hear from us the
more they will realise there is not just the Ramblers out there.
The Telegraph response was interesting to say the least.
A chap from GLPG, a group created from others; GLEAM, RA, FoR and
Landowners, precisely to remove vehicular rights, suggesting the
government's independent research be dismissed and theirs taken as gospel.
Followed by a lawyer telling us that we should ignore vehicular rights
because they are claimed using the under pinning principal of all British
civil law!!
