Hi,
Some weeks ago One of the group was talking about getting long range fuel
tanks from Australia. Has this gone any further? This is next on my list and
I am looking for information.
Regards, Clive.

Clive, something on my list as well. However cost has put me off. As so few dealers hold Landcrusiser items on the shelf there is inevitably a long lead time in waiting for items, as I found when I dropped into Devon 4x4 on the weekend to enquire about OME kits - at least 6 weeks delivery.
So -
I had thought about contacting Allisport in the Forest of Dean, they do all types of alloy fabrication work, with a view to getting one made.
My preference would be for a seperate tank to supliment the existing one, to overcome the dirty fuel scenario. I would also incorporate some form of guarding and possibly bracketry and pipework for a Walbro pusher pump & outlet changeover valve from one tank to the other. Seperate inlet also needed.
I have seen various interesting designs / ideas on a few sites which appear sensible.
Your thoughts please.
BTW - I collected my winch bar from Mark Townsend a couple of weeks ago. First class job. Thanks for reccomending him.
Regards Gareth Jones. '97 1-HDFT.

Hi Clive,
Not sure about Australia, but Andy Bell might be able to help out with
getting some from FrontRunner in SA.
I might be ordering one in the next month or two for someone so may be
able to double up on the order.

Hello Clive,
ll types of alloy fabrication work, with a view to getting one made.
Allisport make aluminium fabrications while most LR fuel tanks I've
heard of are made of steel. The reason being that they are more
exposed to damage behind the rear axle. Also, the Long Ranger tank is
fitted with two U-bolts and two screws. Similarly shaped aluminium
brackets wouldn't stand vibrations so you'd have to devise a clever
way to hang the tank on the chassis (steel straps underneath?).
to overcome the dirty fuel scenario. I would also incorporate some form of guarding and possibly bracketry and pipework for a Walbro pusher pump & outlet changeover valve from one tank to the other. Seperate inlet also needed.
A Walbro pusher pump in the tank would do the trick, but an in-line
pump further up the fuel line would work for both tanks. The
changeover valves and the switch can be bought from Toyota.

For a change over valve you might try one of the many veg oil conversion
kit suppliers that are springing up like http://www.biotuning.co.uk/ .
Why not just have a steel tank fabricated instead of aluminium? The hard
part it seems to me is getting hold of a dual neck filler.
Jon.

Hi Julian,
I have a frontrunner XLR tank on my petrol cruiser in SA. It is 168
litres and has a transfer pump controlled by a switch in the cab. They
are good value at a mere =A3350 plus about 50 quid fitting (in SA prices).
Alas, I'm currently working in the UK - but will be going back to SA in
Feb. When I do go, I'm planning on buying another XLR and shipping it
back to the UK for use on my diesel cruiser over here. If this flies,
I'll ask the question on the list at the time and see if anyone else
wants one.
Cheers for now,
Andy

Right, here we go.
If we are talking a diesel cruiser there is no need for a pusher pump, the
cruiser pump is a dual stage one that sucks the fuel up and then pressurises
it for the injectors. Ali is not good for tanks, it hardens with either age
or work so in time it will crack with stress. Steel is the better option,
unfortunately, both for lifespan and repair.
My thoughts are a tank where the spare fits on UK models, a changeover valve
to dictate which tank fuel is drawn from with a rocker switch to select. The
same rocker switch will switch over the fuel guage to read on whichever tank
is being used. I also like the Toyota dual filler, made for the job and
looks the part.
Regards, Clive.

The Pollak fuel selector valve looks the part and is not expensive.
I'm not sure about the port diameters, though - should be 12mm and
8mm.
There's a manual valve option: http://www.andair.co.uk/system/index.html

Hi all
Julien, frontrunner buys the stuff from australia and |SA is by no means
cheap.
the price for the tank ( complete with all filler, gauge and sep fuel system
was about 400 ? from oz. i will buy from there if order was bigger discount
would also be better. Regards mike

Hi Mike,
I a surprised about that - if you look at their site they (http://www.front-
runner.co.za/Default.aspx?tabid=63) they are claiming that they make them
themselves.
The 168litre Long Ranger tanks from Aus are generally sold in the UK for around
?460 + VAT and then another ?75 + VAT for the fuel gauge sender and switches.
Is that the price of the FrontRunner tank sold in the UK - who is the supplier?
