MAF testing and interchangeability mess

It looks like Toyota fitted two different kinds of MAF sensors on our trucks. 22250-20020 was fitted till 06/1999 and 22204-21010 was fitted after that. I have the former one installed on my 1998 truck.

Now I have a reason to think that my MAF is going bad so I want to test it. I found a bunch of manuals describing how to do do resistance testing on the air temperature sensor (incorporated in the MAF) and voltage testing on the MAF sensor itself. It seems, however, 22250-20020 and 22204-21010 have different pinouts. That makes me think they might have different readings on some tests, too.

I am currently doing tests by this manual - http://www.autozone.com/autozone/re...tems/Mass-Air-Flow-Meter/_/P-0996b43f802c5570 . However, I am really not sure that this is the correct reference. So, can some of you, guys, try measuring this on your pre 06/1999 trucks and see whether it falls within range as per this manual?

P.S. Why is 22250-20020 so much more expensive than 22204-21010....I really cannot see the reason for this.

If you suspect the MAF to be misbehaving then try disconnecting it. If the performance is worse then your MAF should be OK. This is by no means a definitive test but if your preformace improves then it is very likely that the MAF is not working as it should.

Seeing as you have a 1998 with a MAF, could you confirm what engine you have as not all of the 90 series had MAFs?
