Hi guys
today was at Toyota asking for warm elements for my mirrors.the guy ,who
investigate whether that was possible conclude it was NOT.while he was doing
that, he managed to destroy the mirror so I'll get a new one on Thursday.but
that didn't make me happy-after all I wanted to have those warm elements
fitted. So they told me that I should buy the complete mirrors, probably from
Colorado, but they were not sure if they will fit, and if so with the labor
it will cost me around 1000 euros.Any opinions?
cheers
Lubo
PS-is it really not possible to glue the elements on the back of the mirror?

You can glue a heating element such as
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=3DgetPro
duct&R=3D0731350&cm_vc=3Dav_uk#header behind the glass.
I think the biggest problem would be taking the mirror apart and
re-assembling it without breaking anything.

It says that they can be cut to shape. In practice I should think a
circle a bit smaller than the mirror would be good enough.
By the way I haven't done this, I just did some Googling after reading
your question and found other people suggesting this solution. I use a
squeezy washing up bottle full of warm water, but I appreciate that this
might not be good enough for Norway in winter!

Ok!as long as I could see today, and he tried to show it up for me,there was
something in the middle of the mirror (probably the the mechanism that
adjust the mirror up and down as well L,R and that supposed to be the
obstacle to glue the elements...:-(
but I'm not giving up yet! Thanks for the help,Chris!

Here are two links to DIY heated mirors. Second is on FJ Cruiser but the
procedure is basicly the same. Hope it helps.

Hi guys
someone wrote that the Colorado mirrors will fit our HDJ80!is it for
sure?the Toyota guys couldn't tell so :-(
cheers
Lubo

Lubo,
That was me, I have not tried it but when I went from a 90 to an
80 I was sure the mirror glasses were the same size. I do not know
about the back of the mirror. I would try and find a 90 and look at
the glass, if you ever break one the glass is the only bit you replace
so the back is not important.

My experience from working on coaches and lorries is that a flat element
will glue onto most mirror backs, in fact we used to use prit stick glue if
you know what that is?
The problem isn't the element, it's wiring in the cables to power it as you
will need relay, fuse and switch. It is best to use a timer relay then it
does
not matter if you forget to turn the heaters off.
I can imagine on an 80 that this will be a hell of a job even for me and I
am
quite good on vehicle electrics.
Good luck though.

seems to be 'the road to hell 'for me!find some chrome mirrors from
90(Colorado) in a junkyard.when I asked the guy if he knows if they should
fit my car,he replied :I don't have a clue-you ask me,if I have them-yes,I
have them -:( . better solution offers Toyota -they will order the mirrors
and will see if they fit-if they don't -no big deal,if fit:1000 euro
hm....the good thing is that the mirrors will be chrome...aahhh...Don't
think I will do that Christmas present to me...wait and see
Thanks to all your replies,guys
cheers
