Morocco Green card

As its renewal time, I've been researching which UK insurers will issue a green card for Morocco, what fun!

So far the NFU appear to be the only company that still do.

One's that say they do not: Adrain Flux, Chris Knott (LV underwriters), Stuart Collins, Camping & Caravan club and the Co-op.

I've had policies with the NFU for a while now and have used the green card service, which was painless and obtained at no extra cost, a rare thing these days! My experience of the NFU has been excellent so far, they are very helpfull, they don't run a mile when you mention mods, the policy provides fully comprehensive cover both in the UK and EU and allows the policy holder to drive other vehicles 3rd party.

The only downside is the price, I understand you pay a premium for a premium product and I have been for a number of years now, but its been going up each year. Its now £181 more than cover with Chris knott.

So does any one know of any more insurance companies that will issue a green card for Morocco?

Cheers,

Scott.

I am with the NFU and yes they do..
In my opinion the NFU is a superb insurer...

Indeed Toby, I agree, so far the service has been top notch although the proof of insurance is how good they are when the worst happens and you have to make a claim, fortunatley I haven't had to go there.

After further disscussion, a friend has insurance with Carole Nash, who provide a green card, although they do charge for the service, but judging by SimonD's experience with them they don't want to insure vehicles that are used on anything other that tarmac. So for this reason I haven't bothered phoning them.

Cheers,

Scott.

Does anyone know if its possible to just get a green card form somewhere? It would make things much easier as you could choose from a number of insurers for European cover and then get a green card if and when you need it.

I thought I read that you just buy it when you get there?

I had to do that last year, but it cost me about £90 for two weeks.

Its not always as easy as it seems, and if you can get them separately abroad why should you not be able to get them separately in the UK?

I think that's cheap Chas, I wouldn't want to insure you for 2 minutes for that with your record

Specialist market/ very low demand, not worth doing?

From what I have heard from other travellers it seems to be much easier to get green cards in other European countries (with insurance or separately) then it is here. Every insurance company I have asked including NFU would not issue me a green card for Russia and Ukraine regardless of cost. I did not even try Mongolia. Maybe I did not look hard enough...

You can indeed buy insurance on entering Morocco, but it can be a bit pot luck on your sucess rate.

There are insurance offices at most points of entry and in most major towns, but finding one and buying the insurance can take some time and planning. If you get an early or late ferry crossing its unlikley that the offices will be open, so most people drive without cover and then start hunting around for one of the offices located in one of the cities. Then you have to find one that will insure foreign vehicles, so you can end up wasting a couple of hours hunting for the illusive insurance cover.

If its a Sunday they'll be closed, after all everything is running to African time!

You have to budget paying between £75-£90 for 1 months cover, so if you end up visiting Morocco twice in the same year, it may well be worth have a slightly more expensive policy in the UK that'll include a green card.

The $64,000 question is, which UK insurance companies issue green cards for Morocco?

Cheers

Scott.

I have had green card issued two years running from LV for Morocco, they charged me around £1 per day (extra) for fully comp which I thought has very good.

Thanks Matt, that's very interesting. I've sent them an email with some questions. I take it your a member of the CSMA club to qualify for cover, perhaps the green card is a perk for CSMA club members only?

Cheers,

Scott.

Maybe so, I got the same cover as if I was in the UK, I'm told that some insurance companies only issue 3rd party green cards for Morocco, so something to look out for.
