I read recently that the mot regulations have been updated to say ANY modification to the emissions system is a fail...I don't know when that update happened.
does that mean if you replace your exhaust with a stainless one that would be a fail? I suppose a lot would depend on the tester.
 
An exhaust is just a pipe so it doesn't alter emissions at all unless it includes a catalytic converter .
 
I think this was in 2019 which got me thinking about the EGR valves that I'd recently removed but it didn't affect the MOT. I also have a 3" SS side exit exhaust which caused no issues. A missing OEM CAT/DPF is a fail but AFAIK diesel 80's never had them so that's not an issue either. Sorry Greta.
