Mystery Front Hub Protector

I recently stripped the front hubs off my 2001 '100' Auto (4.2 diesel) VX intending to replace the dust shields.

However I found a second tin pressing mounted on top of the original dust shield and using the same bolts.

The second pressing appears to incorporate a rim that protects the oil seal at the rear of the hub.

My Roughtrax replacement shields were flat and I didn't see any other parts advertised.

It can be seen here:

The oil seal protector doesn't appear on the parts diagrams for the '100' :?.

Are they from something else ??

Were they only fitted from new and not continued with ??

Does anyone know please ??

Needless to say, they didn't survive :icon-wink:.

Cheers.

Bob.

Looks very similar to my 90 Bob and that extra bit which is still good on mine is nothing more than a bit of reinforcement for the dust shield . The cup that hides the rear seal on mine is part of the cv shaft if that of any help to you ?

This goes outside the shield:

Got it, thanks guys.

I should have guessed it would be under 'Front Axle Arm' rather than 'Front Caliper & Dust Shield'.
