Starting July 2nd (12 trips panned for 2018) the Volcan de Tijarafe will be making a triangular ferry route linking Portimao (Algarve), Funchal (Maderia) and Tenerrife (Canary Islands) - taking approx 23 hours.

A couple more destinations for us to explore.

The service is operated by navieraarmes.com.
In the recent past we have looked at the ferry costs to the Canary Isles (they have a big 40 series event) and the costs were over 1000 euros but having done a similar exercise with these people it is just under 800 euros although we couldn't find reference to this new service.
A 20+% saving is worth having.
We'll keep an eye on it for when the 40 club announce their dates.

Regards,
Rodger

UPDATE:
The first ferry of the season leaves Funchal at 10.30 am on July 02, and arrives in Portimao/Algarve at 10.30am on 03 July. Ferry then leaves at 12.30pm returning to Maderia, a day later.
One way tickets are Euro 85 per pax (double/quad cabin) and Euro 125 per car.
Ferry capacity 300 cars/1000 passengers.
