Hi,
A brief article about the replacement to the 100 series, to be called
the 200 series and due out some time in 2007:

Not sure about the front end styling, but V8 diesel sounds impressive
and I understanding that the Kinetic suspension option is superb,
particularly on rough corrugated tracks.

Does sound pretty good.
However, I was chatting to a relative this weekend who works for Denso
who are supplying the diesel fuel line components and he said that it is
lovely and powerful, but the pump etc means that it will be extremely
fuel fussy.
Mis-fuel (petrol) and the pump is likely to break immediately, full with
poor quality diesel (most of Africa) and the pump/injectors will soon
fail...
He said you wouldn't be able to go and play in the desert or East
African game parks with it, not unless you took your own pure diesel
with you, not to mention it wont be able to use bio-diesel or veg oil...
A bit of a shame for those of us who would like to play with these in 10
years or so... His advice buy the petrol one.
Regards
Graham.

Given that Toyota's massive market share and reputation in those areas is
huge, plus it's a big supplier to NGO's, I'd say that the spec you described
would be for developed countries.
There will probably be a 'rest of the world' spec for those markets.
About five years ago, I bought a Colorado / Prado left hand drive that
looked very similar to a UK spec, but was nothing like. Designed for the
places you describe, it had:
2.7 4 cyl petrol
No EFI, just a big carb
No airbags
No ECU
No ABS
Not the quickest thing in the world, but could be maintained by anyone with
a spanner and a hammer.

That is good to know.
Thanks Graham.

Hi Graham,
Do you mind if I quote you on another list to try to find out a bit more
about this?

Its got something to do with common rail and high pressure...

It seems to be a common thread I=B9m hearing about all these new high output
diesels, including Mercedes and BMW.
Apparently the advanced injectors they use cost a fortune to replace too.
