Welcome Mik,
Your first task is to find JB a fitter who knows what he is talking about
and will not rip JB off. His exploits with Toy dealers who are experts on
the Yaris worry us all.
You didn't have to tell us your DOB, and be warned there is occasional
coarse reference here to us over 50's. But I will enrol you as an honorary
member of the All Bosnia Zimmerframe and Snowboard Club ready for when you
have a drive down to the Balkans for winter sports, and you will qualify
for a discount on board hire ;-)
Cheers

Hi Jon
Did you see my earlier response to John C. about my PS parts?
I got the power steering parts via Darren in Australia, nearly all the bits
came back with my friend on the plane as luggage (31kg's), they forgot to
put the heater (an afterthought, but paid for) on the van when delivering
locally in Aus, but apart from that all is well, can't wait to fit the PS to
the FJ40.
So thank you very much for the contact, I'll let you know when it's all
fitted.

Hi Angela (OH and you David!),
There are a one or two 70 series on the list that might be able to help.
Are you after specific information or would just like a manual to flick
through?

Hi David and Angela,
What would you like to know? I am assuming the truck is post Aug 1988 in
which case it is a 2LTII or 2LTIIE (the E being EFI injection). It will
have EGR on it which you can remove which will improve engine life fuel
economy, soot loading of the engine oil, visible smoke but increase NOx
emissions slightly, throttle response will be better especially at low
rpm. The engine is a indirect injection turbocharged 4 cylinder. The
mkII motor has a better breathing cylinder head, larger turbo, very high
lift cam with shim adjustable bucket tappets (vs the mkI using roller
rockers). They have a bit of a reputation for eating cylinder heads, but
it is unfounded, it is usually due to a lack of injector servicing. A
fresh set of nozzles every 100,000km and they rarely give trouble. If
not EFI they respond well to a Walbro pusher pump, a bigger exhaust and
intake upgrades (some models are a bit small on the aircleaner side). If
you want to get really carried away a big front mount intercooler and
small garret T3 turbo really wakes them up.

After losing my Colorado TD just over a year ago when I left my old job, I
have finally been able to buy a replacement, a 2000 3.0TD GX Colorado
(facelift model). The car is absolutely fantastic!

Just a couple of quickies:

1. Does anyone know where I can get a UK spec maintenance
manual from?
2. I=92m thinking of changing the tyres to BF A/T=92s as my
father-in-law has raved about them on his Disco (three of these in the
family I=92m afraid!) Any opinions?

I look forward to getting involved in all things Landcruiser.

Regards

Mark,
The only manuals I found were the Ellery generic cruiser one from
Aus., and the haynes. Of the two the Ellery is for mechanically minded
folk and the Haynes for bank clerk types. I wound up buying the Toyota
set, expensive but good.
I have BFG AT's on my 80 series and they are a very good tyre.
There are always folk that rant on about 'this tyre is the best in the
world' but it really is a case of what suits you. Mine are going to
give me 50,000 miles and more would be possible.
Regards, Clive.

Hi

I have just joined the list.

I do not own a Landcrusier - yet!

I would like a Series 40 Trayback Ute!

But, being practical, I am looking for Series 62, Turbo, with front and rear diff-locks.

No desperate rush to buy, the plan is to repair, restore, modify a Cruiser ready for some long distance travelling when I retire in three years time.

Choice of Series 60 over a 80 is really at matter of available funds!!

I will just be lurking on the list for now, looking for information and good ideas.

Steve

Hi Steve,
Welcome aboard.
You have come to the right place - we have a good mix of LC owners
woning most models that are all more than happy to do some hand holding
and with a strong overlanding contingent you should be well setup for
when you retire ;-)

Hi Steve,

A 60 Series will most likely require a lot of work /money to bring up to
scratch, probably what a reasonable 80 would cost you. The 60 series is
also almost a vintage vehicle with either a thirsty petrol or a quite
thirsty diesel, on the plus side more basic engineering.

I think your chances of finding the right 60 series (good condition, 62 with
diff locks, are small just because of the limited number of 60 series
available without considering optional items). Nice HJ60 on EBAY B reg =9285,
only a months MOT currently at =A3280, doubt it will go for more than =A3750.
Item number 270167809426

How about a half way house, a 40 series Troopie? Not many available in the
UK but there are usually a few for sale in Germany (LHD mostly).
