Hi all
I am currently preparing a 60 series TLC for a trans Africa trip. Its a G reg, HJ60 with the straight 6 diesel 2H engine.
It has the usual rusty wings but otherwise is in pretty good nick for the year. The only thing is has a really annoying noise coming from the clutch that stops when the slack is taken up in the clutch cable via the clutch pedal, has anyone else had this?
cheers
James

Hi and good luck with the trip.
Noise - my money is on the thrust bearing. It may whine away for ages, on the other hand ?
Any ideas when the clutch was last changed ? If not I would be looking at replacing the lot - far easier, faster and probably cheaper to do here than deep in the boondocks. Plus you want to enjoy the trip not be spannering.

Hi James,
Sounds like the thrust bearing that is pushed against the forks of the
clutch to engage it.
Not a major problem in itself, but they are usually replaced when the
clutch is replaced and vice versa. You will need to remove the gearbox
from the engine and since you have gone that far you might consider
replacing the clutch as well.
