New to the group with my J90

Hello Con and welcome , a very tidy and straight looking 95 , green is a great colour despite blue being considered the "best" colour for a 90/95.So straight into the thread hijack , i had black steel modular rims with MTs on my 95 for a while before realising that here in Spain i was uninsured because they didn't have a CE approval. This is defiantly one to check out in Ireland .
" then there are coned nuts which fit into a dish in the wheel to centre it. Neither really work well with steel wheels for example "
Chris i had steel rims from Paddock & the coned nuts fitted perfectly into the "rounded countersink - am i missing something ? genuine Toyota , 10 years ago were 6 euro each.

Thank you for the welcome. my family has a history of having forest green cruisers. from research done to this point and knowledge from modifying the car also, insurance do not consider changing wheels as a modification. for passing yearly inspection the standard wheels may need to be used.
Did you have any issues with the modular steel wheels other than being uninsured?

If you google "off road 6 x 139.7" that should give you an idea of whats available regarding wheels though i can't help much with tyres because i bought the size i wanted and made my truck fit them

Is 165 the biggest you can go without a lift ? someone here knows ......................

I was in touch with a specialist for an opinion in terms of tyre size. i have been told that a 175/70 on standard wheels and suspension would not cause any rubbing so i will probably look into getting a bigger size than 165
i have looked through off road wheels and think i have found a set that i do like.
thank you for the recommendation

Adrian Flux takes a view we only spend money on upgrades and modifications because we intend to keep and care for the vehicle .

I have found through lots of trial and error that the 90's independent front suspension likes an offset wheel so -30ish 16x8 i would suggest should help visually elaborate on the fact its a capable 4x4 . That said it is all trial and error and i haven't tried what you aim to achieve .

Here's my first experiment , helen07 is me but i couldn't login so the mrs signed up Biggest tyres you can fit to a 90 without a lift kit . - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club] .

Sorry, am I being stupid? 175/70? mine runs 265 70 16. Am I missing something?

265 70 16 is likely the size i was thinking of when i said 165 , mental block so it was a question rather than anything else i was hoping someone would post the size you just gave .

" Did you have any issues with the modular steel wheels other than being uninsured? " no they were fine .I had a set of mud tyres on the steel rims & used to fit them for the wetter months here - i do forestry work sometimes. But in the end i stayed with the all terrains year round as they were better in the snow , ice and rain.OK so they're not as good as MTs in really boggy stuff but being careful and having a hand winch fixes that.

By the sounds of it the all terrain are definitely a better choice than the mud terrains for general use. maybe some light off-roading or even some field work

Toyo open country are the most aggressive looking hard wearing mud tyres i ever seen , reasonably priced to but size options are limited and they are heavy .

BFGoodridge are the most popular choice i reckon but expensive last time i looked , or Cooper STT

Just fitted BFG KO2 on mine. Ordered through Asda. 265 70 16 just under £650 fitted for 4

Thanks for the recommendation on the Toyo's. I need to replace the kumo kl71's on my 70 series. When you change down from 3rd to 2nd the rear tyre skids!

33x12.5R15 mounted on 10" rims.. will give a true 33" with this tyre it says!

They lie !

I have them on 10" rims and they are smaller (in height) than the 285/75 on an 8" rim cooper stt they replaced . I wouldn't swap them back though
