Newbie just picked up a 1970 FJ40

From Virginia!
Paid 4300.00. Runs and drives it needs a lot of TLC. 83k miles and not modified.
Rust is minimal. Currently not coming out of low range. Thoughts?

Hello and welcome....

Your 40 looks to be a good basis.

When I got mine the transfer stick was very stiff, not stuck like yours - and I found that years of mud and crud were stopping the shafts working properly. Cleaned off the muck and coated the joints in machine lubricant and it has worked perfectly ever since. It only needs a little stone caught in a joint and it won't move.
