I am so new here i just introduced myself yesterday :). We are getting ready to ship our rig to most likely Belgium maybe Barcelona. I have some non urgent work that i need done on our rig. My question is should i get them done here in Los Angeles, Ca or somewhere in the EU. If we end up in Belgium (mostly) we will drive south for warmer weather, Portugal, Spain, Moracco. We are not committed to any route i am looking for a good Landcruiser shop with reasonable price and distance. We will be wondering in the area but hopefully try to get to a warmer whether. We will be there in January 2019.

I would like to get my transmission, transfer case rebuild and cooper radiator. Yes they are big jobs but none urgent. Our rig will run for many more kilometer just as it is, these are mainly preventive maintenance since we will be out wondering around in the EU and other countries for multiple years.

Our rig has a 12ht engine with a h55 transmission.

That sounds like a great rig Nulla, one which many dream about im sure
Welcome to the group and good luck with your transfer to europe
There are good engineers in europe too and Im sure you could entrust the care of your truck to a new more local firm when you get here. Parts may be less available but just google cruiserworld.eu or similar or even continue to source from Specter or others from the states

Hi Nulla,
I noticed on another thread that you mention leaks in your transmission and transfer box. Until recently I had a leak in my transfer box and, with the help of @Dave2000 (more like he did it and I assisted), we found that it was the PTO take off cover but it only leaked when we were moving. We drained the oil and replaced the gasket and refilled the t/box and now there just remains a minuscule leak from the end of the shaft (centre at back) but it is so small I'm not going to worry about it. Maybe worth a look as it took less than an hour to identify, drain, strip off the cover, make a gasket, add sealer, refit and replace the oil.
There are several LC specialists in the UK & Portugal, etc., so if you decide to have the work done in Europe, this forum's members will be able advise you. Unlike much of the USA 'diesel' in Europe is not considered a black art.

Regards,
Rodger

Thank you, your comment made me realize that maybe I should be asking “Are there landruiser specialist on our route from Belgium heading south? Portugal or Southern Spain are probably a good stop since the climate will be warmer, we are open. If there is a recommendation pls let us know. Thx

I have some great mechanics to hand but they’re more used to the 80 and 100 series LCs. If you wish, I can find out if they would be interested in working on your 40...

The mechanics are true LC enthusiasts and the company [GTC Autos] has a sound reputation, you can gooooogle them if you want, GTC Autos Popesti Leordeni...

Hi Nulla,
There is a 40 series forum in France : http://www.serie4.fr/forum/viewforum.php?f=45
As you will notice, its in french..... but they will know where the good mechanics are in france.
They organize a yearly 40 meeting in june.

At Rocco's place in Holland, you're welcome to work on your own cruiser. The garage sometimes looks like a dump, but Rocco surely knows his way around cruisers and he has fair prices. http://www.wheels-unlimited.nl/

Hi Nulla.

Below is web address of a garage that was local to me when I was in France.

David is mad about Land Cruisers and language issues notwithstanding I'm sure he would be happy to help you find the right people if he can't help you himself.

Lavelanet is in the foot hills of the Pyrenees about and hour and a half from the Med and four and a half hours from Barcelona.

Massively jealous of your engine gearbox combo.

Cheers
