Hi,
New to the website and mailing list.
I'm trying to get hold of a centre arm rest for my 1996 Prado.. i
have a low level one fitted at the moment, but it's no good for lazily
resting your elbow on - and there is a taller version available,
that i believe has a sliding top section. It might be from a later
model (1998 onwards ?)
I can't order one from Toyota because my model number doesn't show
it as an available part on their system, and they can only order
parts relating to a specific vehicle model number.
So, my question is: does anybody know an actual part number for
that centre armeest that would make searching for it easier, or, does
anybody have one in their vehicle whose model number i
could use to order the part ?!
Phew. Thanks
Fishy

Hi Ian,
I'm assuming that you have a Jap import - if you can find another with
the arm rest you describe and can give me things like the Frame Number,
Model Number, basically all the info from the identification plate in
the engine bay Ishould be able to find the part number on the
Electronic Parts Catalogue that I have that covers European and
Japanese models.

Hi Guys
Having being pulled by another 4 x 4 up a wet grass bank the other day (my
mate got it stuck not me) in my new LC, it got me thinking about basic
recovery equipment. Hopefully someone can help me with following:
1. Are the standard lashing down eyes strong enough for a recovery? Or
should I upgrade to something stronger?
2. Is the Hi-Lift jack any use as an emergency winch, or is a there a
better option out there such as a Tirfor?
3. As I am planning on keeping the car for a long time, am I best to look
at proofing the chassis?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm sure there will be some opinions out
there!

Hi Mark,
Generally they are, although I don't know the ones on the 90 series.
You have more chance of keeping your fingers using a Tirfor and a Hi-Lift can
only winch it's length before resetting - not that practical.
Yes, I would if I was you. Later LCs are generally pretty good when it comes
to rusting, however every bit helps so a good dose of Waxoyl in the chassis
rails and over the underbody and axle should help protect your investment.

Thanks Rod
I have used the rear locker a couple of times in the past to get up steep
wet grass banks. I just seem to be having problems to get it to engage now.
The red light for the rear diff comes on flashing but will not stay on. In
the manual car, it says let the clutch out slowly as if maybe the diff needs
to move a little to enable it to lock, but as I don't fully understand how
the system works this really is only a guess. Any more ideas? Also, briefly
how does the loccker work?
On a posative note, I'm having a set of BF A/T's fitted on Thursday.

Hi John
Would I be right in thinking that the company in the UK are Kleentect? They
always advertise in the landrover magazines.

Hey Brain
Sorry, I had to start a new thread being a new subject and all.
Do you know of any other stuff exept the usual (Waxoil) to coat the
underbody of the cruiser.
Or do you know of anywhere here that will do it for me.
I know there is a place in the Uk but its too expensive.
cheers

Hi Mark,
Here's a very crude explanation....
The diff can only lock in one position out of the 360 degree rotation.
If the lock doesn't engage immediately it is because the locking pin
and hole aren't aligned.
The wheels have to rotate independently (ie one spinning) in order for
the pin to spin round to the locating hole and then lock.
I have been across slippery fields with the rear diff lock engaged, but
not locked because the wheels aren't spinning/rotating independently of
each other.
A quick way to get them to lock is to drive around in a circle - the
outer wheel will rotate faster than the inner one so will eventually
lock.

Hi lads can you please help
I have a 24v 4.2 97 just started to get a vibration though gearbox from
engine and in to transfer box lever
Car is a manual, vibration is there on idle and goes up the rev band I have
been under motor and you can feel it
Props as well
Bob /hdj 80 oil burner

Is it engine speed related., not road speed? If so my 2p would be
perhaps a blocked injector?

Canada received Landcruiser diesels up to 1989, I think it was. The US
didn't get the diesels. Mine is a Canadian-spec HJ60, somewhat rare with the
4.0 litre inline 6 and auto trans, 24v system. BJ60's with the 4 speed are a
little more common. Plus we received quite a few BJ40's, FJ40's and FJ60/61s
as well. In Canada Landcruisers were mostly used by resource
companies--mines and forestry.
The JDM (Japanese domestic market) imports are thriving these days, as a lot
of importers are bringing over every kind of Japanese diesel 4x4s--as long
as they're 15 years old, they're good to go. But not everyone wants
right-hand drive, so the "original" Canadian-spec 'Cruisers are a little
more in demand (if they're not all rusted out...)
Cheers,

Hi there, I have subscribed for my brother who doesn't have a computer
but he owns an 80 series ans is trying get hold of a set of injector
nozzles. Do you know of the cheapest place to buy a set (obviously still
want to be good quality) as his garage charge a massive commission on
top.
It's a 1995, 4.2 turbo diesel 24 valve. He may also call you, his name
is Dan.
Many thanks
