I'm planing a trip to Nordkapp in the fall, the plan is to go op through
Sweden, and Finland and going down through Norway on the way back.
Has anyone been there, if so you might have some info experiences that
could help me on my way :) .. if not I'll just figure things out as I go.
I know this trip is nothing compared with those of you that drive across
continents.. but I have to start somewhere and Nordkapp is the place..
and I will be a solo-trip just me and the old 80 ;)

Well.. as it is a solo-trip one car and one man I'm not going to take to
many chances.. but I'm non known to drive around if it "possible" to go
through.. ;)
Well.. I'll try to keep track of everywhere I go, with pictures, video
and notes, the you can judge for yourself :)
Thanks :D

Sounds like a nice trip, except for the timing/season.
When is fall for you? In the North Cape area it has already started. No
more midnight sun since end of July. And the weather getting colder.
My view is that the charm with the High North is the mid-summer and the
mid-winter. (I grew up there). In the winter-cold the light is as
special as during midnight sun, and maybe even more so. But it really
gets cold...
The autumn is perfect for hunting and fishing though, if you are equipped.
(warm woolens & rain-gear).
You ought to spend some time inland on the highland plateau stretching
from Norway into Finland, as the landscape, flora and fauna is
remarkable. Visit the great big local silversmith named Juhls if passing
through Kautokeino. This is in the centre of the Sami area.
What else? Yes, North Cape, been there, done that, saw nothing. It's a
nice place if the weather is good, but otherwise it's not the northernmost
point on the European mainland, not even the northernmost point on the
island, but in a way representing both.
On your way south, you could stop in Troms?, the Paris of the north, with
the highest number of places that serve alcohol per capita. Good for
nightlife & dating, e.g. Also a nice little university-town. Troms? also
has an active LC club it seems, with regular "get-togethers" in some
military training grounds. (From reading the NLCK website). Further
south: look at the pix at http://www.bourlingueurs.com/norvege/index.htm
for inspiration.
And yes, all driving outside public roads can be reported & prosecuted,
except for on a handfull of tracks in the northernmost county Finnmark,
where you are allowed to drive in order to reach a fishing or hunting
area. I.e. bring a fishing rod.
Ask, for more trouble. :-,

Yes I know this, but it is the only time I can get away from my work for

Well I was planing a winter trip with a friend, two blokes in two trucks,
but he BROKE his truck.. so I'm on my own.. and I really need to get
away from work now.. I have not had more than a few days of vacation the
last year.. so.. the trip is just as much to get away from computers and
cell-phones.. So I decided to get away as soon at it was possible
I'm not much of a fisherman.. and hunting I have never done.. but I like
to shoot things with my camera. and in opinion no weather is bad
photo-weather.
Thank you for all of you info :)

Studded tyres - makes grip like night and day. I was in Sweden with
an 80 in Feb. Changed the tyres when we got there and made a massive
difference, especially in braking ability. Could make the difference
in stopping in time and not.
Also, was minus 35 one day. Do not drive, as you could well break the
car. I talked to a trucker on he way home that had been to Kiruna and
broke both hydraulic rams on the tail lift of his truck due to the cold.
But it's a truly beautiful place and you'll love it.

Neill Watson
