I'm based in Coventry and am technically incompetent but love travel; if
anyone wants any info on the trips we've done I'll be happy to help and
I look forward to meeting up sometime and picking your brains
=> Welcome to the list Jeff!!
Here's a question for you and all the members with African trips experience:
How could I manage an enjoyable 4x4 trip in Northern Africa (mainly Morocco
but I'm open to other countries like Tunisia) with Kids (3&6) and during the
summer (July/August, summer school vacations)???????
The vehicle would be either my current HDJ80 (with AC ;o) or a KZJ95, both
with roof-tent(s).
Thanks for sharing with me your experience.

Hi Lio,
What about the 3rd one - would you leave that one at home?

=> Yes, hanging by the feet in a closet they're more quite... :op
No, not at home but I can have one kid watched over by family during that
period.

both Tunisia and Morocco are hot at that time of the year, but then you know
that..
=> Yes but I also know they are some places that might stay cool, like the
Atlas. But then the problem is that I don't know if staying up in altitude
will be enjoyable or not. I know people (like you) who have crossed the
Atlas and seen beautiful landscape but they didn't spend there all trip
there, just a part of it..... Well, maybe I'm hoping for the impossible, and
there's simply no way to enjoy Morocco in the Summer. :o(
ive never travelled with children of that age so ill guess at your
problems...
=> Yes I know it is not obvious to advice someone in my situation if you
never experienced it. FYI, last year we spent 3 weeks in Portugal, riding
almost exclusively on trails and doing "wild camping" (do you say 'Bivouac'
in english?). The girls enjoyed the experience and only complained not to
have friends of there age to play with...
Tunisia offers a range of holidays from the tourist north to the desert
south..with lots of driving between..i prefer the desert south (but then im
anti social).
=> Well I'm 100% like you and my wife about 80%... I actually force myself
to go back to civilisation when riding trails in a country because I know
there's also nice things to see in cities (monuments, historical places,
...). I thing if I go to Morocco, it will be very hard for me to visit the
local markets (souks?) as I hate the crowd, even though I know it is an
experience not to miss....
the "tourist" areas are what youd expect..more expensive more built up but
probabaly better if yu have children
=> No way! I'm not going city-driving with my truck just because I have kids
;o) I'll take the necessary measures and equipment to make sure they are
safe and confortable, but touristic areas will be avoided as much as
possible!
Thanks for your help,
Lio - dreaming of exotic destinations...:o)
