Oil pressure gauge

Well that's a higher pressure than my gauge shows.
Cold idle is 1/3, Cold >2000rpm not quite 2/3rds
Warm idle is a little off the bottom, Warm >2000rpm is just over 1/3
Seriously hot idle shows zero!
On the other hand it's been that way for the last 5 years / 65k miles,
and oil consumption is nil unless I really hammer it, so I've stopped
worrying.
I know the dashboard oil pressure gauges are notoriously inaccurate, so
I think one should start worrying when behaviour changes in any way,
rather than about any - supposed - absolute values.

| As Julian knows my 93/94 TLC VX must be due some work and one of the
issues I have to address is the big end change. I have noticed that the
oil pressure has dropped slightly and the old girl is using a small
amount of oil maybe a pint between oil changes? The pressure never
dropped below half way mark even when idling but now it drops to the
lower third line and when really flogged on idle it just drops below the
line. Response when blipping the throttle is good though and when cold
it is at the upper third line until warm when it drops to mid point
during a good run at say 2k rpm. No noise from engine is evident (hard
to hear over the noise from the fuel pump but that is another story) and
no traces of metal when changing the oil. What is the consensus from
the members as to what we old TLCers should be looking out for?

I thought as much. The engine in my car sounds fine once warm and the gauge
does all the right things at the right times - but as you say, they are not
very accurate.
I've got plenty of other things to do to keep me busy with the car but I
guess at some time I'll have to have a look at me big ends...

Hi, new to the site and finding information very useful, re oil pressure
gauge I have an HDJ80 diesel, at cold idle the gauge is on 2/3 , warm idle
1/3 and at 3000 rpm when warm just over the 2/3, she's done 150k !on a
1994. Would appreciate any guidance to the best supplier of springs and
shocks as I would like to give the old girl a little lift. She's an import
with the current shock having an electronic switch setting for normal or
sports, but it doesn't make any difference.

Hi Russell,
Welcome aboard.
The standard lift that many go for is the Old Man Emu 2" lift and then
you choose your spring/damper model depending on the amount of weight
to carry.
http://www.sleeoffroad.com have a reasonably good guide for the
different levels of lift and the amount of weight you need to carry -
once you have the part numbers then it's just a case of ringing around
the suppliers like Frogs Island, Devon 4x4 or TBR to get the best deal
- I doubt any of them will have them in stock so you may need to wait a
few weeks for delivery.
When I helped one of the other listers change theirs last year we just
unplugged the electronics at the shock absorber end leaving the
switches, etc in place in the cab, but redundant.
