A flush will speed up the process of getting rid of the varnish that has built up over the mileage.
If you dont flush it just takes longer to disapear.
Amsoil do a flush as do a lot of others but its your choice.
If you are doing a flush do not drive the cruiser at all and only run it at fast idle for the time stated then drain your oil.
Im only saying this because some will tell you its ok but the best advice is not to drive with a flush in at all.
Amsoil is interchangable, which means you can go back to Dono if you have to or want to.
Yes you are right about some oil consumption after change over and this will vary.
Mine ate the Amsoil like it was free but seems to have calmed down a good bit now.
This is either due to normal processes of the change of life in the engine or maybe had something to do with the engine heating up after running out of coolant because my injector pump guy did not refill the engine after draining it to fix the pump.
The post oil consumption may or may not be temporary depending on how your engine reacts.
But you will need to keep an eye on the oil level and stick with it for a while to see the difference.
I recently had an oil analyasis done at 5400 miles and the oil is fine for another duration.
So I will get another one done at about 8000 miles and see what the story is.
I do however use oil inbetween changes ,so I am topping up with fresh oil which helps maintain the oil structure.
I am out of the stuff now and only have enough for top ups.

Question: I'm about to upgrade to Amsoil from Castrol.
Does anyone know if I need to flush out the Castrol and if so how?
Would a residue of Castrol react negatively with the Amsoil?
From previous treads, I'm expecting the oil consumption to increase post change, but for that to be a temporary side effect.
