OME

Hey guys
Having found myself with a spare day and the weather being reasonable I
decided to finally fit my OME suspension.
850 and 863 springs with LTR shocks.
Still need to do the caster bushes but what an improvement.
I live in a road with speed humps, don't know if this is a UK thing, but for
those that don't they're ramps built to slow you down!!
OME just smoothes them out, love it.
My front springs were labelled Left and Right. My vehicle is RHD but the
spring marked left was longer, so I fitted it on the right hand (drivers)
side.Vehicle sits level.
The springs that came out were standard 1997 UK springs and were in equal
pairs, no difference between left and right. My load sensing valve was 9" to
the bracket holding the adjuster to the axle, from the floor(above).
I do know that Aus and Africa get different ride heights than UK but am
still confused that one spring was longer than the other.
For all those that 'haven't got around to it yet', its only taken me 12
months and a new Landcruiser before I got around to it.
It was definitely worth it though.
Now next job, pack up a gearbox for shipping then fit the winch and ARB bar,
then new tyres and rear bar, then........!

This is confused sometimes due to de labeling.
In my case didnd get on fisrt, hehehe. But its esay to see because when they
are wrongly and you see the hdj80 from the front it never looks plain
horizontal...

Hi Dave,
Well done.
I don't know why they are different lengths, but you need to be wary
about left/right side - bear in mind that in Aus where they are
manufactured they drive on the same side as us so the instructions
should be correct - it's only the yanks that should be swapping them
over.

Hi Niall
No saggy arse, just 2 useless shocks and lots of corrugations on the S exit
of the Serengeti. The car was almost undrivable with the rear end kicking
out at the smallest excuse. Dropping the tyre pressure down to 20psi helped.
Having said how bad the shocks are, I would like to add that I really
appreciated having the OME springs. I fitted the std + 400kg springs. Hard
enough to carry the load, but soft enough to give a comfortable ride.
I would recommend RSA (from South Africa) shocks - they cost me =A335 each in
Arusha!!! On the list prior to my departure someone mentioned that OME
shocks had let them down and suggested something from Germany - sorry I cant
remember the name.
Cheers
Graham

Hi Graham,
Do you recall which OME shocks you had?
Also what sort of load did you have in the back of your car on the trip?
The main times I have heard of problems with OME is when they have been poorly matched with load and springs.
