OT - Bluetooth and XDA Orbit Gps

Hello,
Perhaps someone has had a similar problem and could help me to find a
solution. any advice will be appreciated.
1) I have an XDA Orbit phone with internal GPS and a mini Bluetooth
dongle running Blusoleil software (ver. 2.6.0.1). I am trying to use
the phone's GPS receiver to talk to the pc navigation software via a
BT link but can't get past the com port hurdle.
The phone is paired with the pc via COM7. COM6 is the incoming port -
there are no other ports to select.
In the phone's System Settings, COM4 is the port that programs use to
obtain GPS data, and the hardware port to which a GPS device can be
connected is a range between COM0 and COM9.
Bluesoleil software on my PC is paired with the phone on COM24, runs
Serial Port Service A via COM26 and Serial Port Service B via COM27.
I can make connection between the phone and the pc using Serial Port
Service, but that's about as far as it goes. Redirecting COM26 or any
port to COM7 on the pc has no effect.
2) BTW, I had to twice reinstall blusoleil software. I noticed it
added each time a new range of virtual com ports. Now the valid range
is COM23 - COM31. What's happened to COM1-COM22? How do I restore the
settings. Does this affect the issue I have with GPS link described
above?

Sorry Roman, I have the same phone and found I didn't have enough patience
to use the gps signal on a remote device, did try though. Windows on a
thing that small is dangerous - I could end up throwing it quite a way!

Hi Roman,
You can normally change the settings via the Bluetooth software on the PC?
Cannot speak for the software you are using?
Also you can try changing via device manager->ports-> and then right click
the port in question then choose settings and advanced and you can select
the port number.
Not sure if that will work for the Bluesoleil software?
You may want to try this

oo-high.html
Remember fiddling with registry can screw the pc ;-), make a backup of the
keys you changed or if you are happy reinstall all of software/Operating
System again then don't worry...
Hope it helps.
Martin.

Martin,
Thanks. Now that I know more or less what to search for, I have also found this:
http://www.infralin.com/faq/bluetooth/BtComPortAllocation.htm
Trying to get my head round the registry edit, but I'd rather try
removing a broken bolt :)
If I succeed, it should also sort out the problem of ActiveSync not
being able to connect using PnP on COM8.

Hi Roman,
Should have been a bit more descriptive ;-)
If you cannot work it out give me a shout and I will try and explain how to
do it...

Roman.
You need to use an application to bridge the incoming Com port on the
XDA-Orbit to the internal virtual com port used for internal communication
with the internal GPS.
Have a look at the following link. Two applications will do what you need,
Either GPS Gate or GPS 2 Blue (GPS 2 Blue is free.
With regard to the Com ports you need to go into the Device Manager List and
delete the com ports (make sure you leave 1 through 4 at least as these are
hardware ports on the PC) after you de-install BlueSoleil. Then re-install
Bluesoleil. I had the same problem on mine when I installed my Billionton
BlueTooth PCMCIA card in the internal slot of my Toughbook.

Andy,
Thanks for your help. I tried one of these apps, but either they do
something strange or I can't figure out what they can do for me. I
managed to trim the number of ports in the registry, but decided to
give up on bluetooth conectivity. This bluesoleil dongle is just too
troublesome. Rather than playing with virtual com port emulation via
usb hub, I bought a GPS add-on module for my Xplore iX401 tablet.
Problem solved!
