Owners manual

Dear All
I am trying to get an owners manual in English for a 1991(year of manufacture) VEX 4.2 import Auto HD.
I want to know how to turn the diff on and off and to find out if I can do this in gear and in any ratio and whether moving and stationary; pretty basic stuff really. And also what is the red button for that sits in front of the lever that controls shifts between ratios. I am a little timid about pressing a red button when I have no idea what it does. Do these things have ejector seats? I think I need a manual.
Regards Tony

The red button is for getting the gear shift out of P when the engine is off
and the key out of the ignition. You may have noticed that you cannot shift
the lever when the motor is off.
For my own part, I tend to turn the diff lock on and off when the car is
stationary and I usually put it into N. None of this is required but I would
hate to make a horlicks of either centre or fr/rr diff locks so I just play
it cautious. Someone on here I=B9m sure will know the manufacturers gumpf on
alll this. If in doubt, stick it in neutral, shift the locckers and get
going. The locks don=B9t always engage straight away but will do once the diff
itself is aligned in a particular way.
I don=B9t have a manual for my =8C93 import and I doubt you=B9ll find one. I have
the Japanese book....

Re: [ELCO] Owners manualThanks for info about the red button.
Say, I am driving along in high range and come across something unexpected can I simply engage the diff if I have to, asuming I don't want to stop. Similarly can I shift from Hi to Lo range without stopping. Is it best to stop, essential to stop or does it not matter?

You can lock the centre diff while in motion, but I would not do it on
tarmac at any kind of speed. The axle locks ayou should only engage
when stationary.
The writing on the red button says 'release'.
What are you going to come across that needs the diff locked when
you dont want to stop? You are not driving a tank and if you need to
lock the diff you should be prepared to stop, never mind what you want
to do.
If you shift from high to low range without stopping you are in
with a very good chance of wrecking part of the transmission. You can
do this but you will do it at too high a speed.
Regards, Clive.
