D4D 90 she snapped the key , i botched a quick repair using wire so she had something to grip because she had to go to work which she wrecked that before i followed her out .

I've separated the fob which still works and used epoxy putty to set the key in an old key housing .

But now the engine light is on and while its turning over fine it wont fire , perhaps the truck thinks someone was trying to steal it ?

Any ideas ?

Sounds like the immobilizer may have kicked in - has the transponder/chip in the key been damaged?

That's the central locking - which will work off the fob, even without the key. The starting problem sounds like the key isn't sending any messages to the immobilizer.

So as suggested above either tape the broken bits of the key to your 'wire' or at least hold it close by.

I got it , just remembered i have to press and hold for 30 seconds both lock and unlock buttons on my older 90 to re-synch when it stops working so tried that and she fired up no bother

Won't start again today , i primed hell out of the fuel filter but no joy so i've disconnected the batteries in the hope it will wake with a clear head .

Has the Chip in the fob fallen out/got lost Shayne...It seems like the signal from fob to injector pump is the problem, Not the immobiliser .... Just guessing mate, Not so different thing happened on my old Escort diesel van....

The chip fell out of my 90 fob and found it in the footwell

It snaps because the metal part of the key only goes about 5mm into the fob housing , i had spare case because Timpsons refused to use it last time insisting i bought exactly the same case from them .

I'm pretty sure nothing fell out and the fob works fine .

Just a long shot.. The chip in one of my fobs was like a tiny woodruff key that had come dislodged and was joggling about making starting intermittent till it finally fell out.... Found it in the turn ups on my overalls, Super glue sorted it.... Your fob does look intact tho...

Reconnected batteries this morning and it started no problem at all , had the grandkids all day so just tried again and it won't start . Fluke of coincidence maybe i'm thinking maybe but i'm wondering if the suction contol valves have give up but there's no way to test that without removing them is there ?

3 Cruisers and only the second time in 8 years one refused to start

Seems a mega coincidence it's only been a problem since the key got broke Shayne. My money still on imobilizer problem

So get it started and take it to a garage i guess because when it comes to electronics i want to grab an axe and a blow torch even before i start .

She bent the bloody key itself :angry-tappingfoot:

Finally found the master key which has no electronics attached and all is good .

Timpsons want 70 quid to cut a copy of the master ! no fob just a plain key :wtf:
