You must be psychic dear boy!
Today I retrieved the 80 from what might have become it's final resting
place. It's been a while but a considerable chunk of the delay was down to
me.
It now has a nice looking, sounding and running new (2nd hand) engine that
does look all shiny and could well be the sub-30K miles that was claimed but
who can tell? Starts and runs like a dream and drove the 40 odd miles back
home along a mixture of traffic-infested city streets, open roads and
mortoways without missing a beat.
There were (and still are to an extent) a couple of issues that mean that
I'm not entirely happy with the work and place that did the work and I'm not
sure I'd recommend them to anyone else. Having said that there were a fair
number of Jap vehicles in their workshops and they do seem to have quite a
good range of new and used spares on their shelves. They claim to have a
couple of expedition style roof racks in their stores but couldn't lay their
hands on them while I was there. I'll pop back and see them another day.
Anyway, only time will tell as to how good the engine and their workmanship
are. It's OK so far and it's really quite awfully nice to have the cruiser
back on the driveway!
I am the eternal pessimist though.
I'll keep you all posted.
Pete

Peter,
Any progress with the engine? Thought of your engine woes when I came across
a picture of a cylinder head test rig again. Local to me actually.
