PRADO 90 V6 Repair and Revitalize

Finally solved my "constant cold temp gauge"....After weeks of trying to find the culprit and hours of surfing the web, I brought my truck to one of the shops near to my house. It turned out that the mechanioc supervisor used to be an Ex- Toyota electrical specialist. He told me that there is a temp sending uniot at the back of the throttle body just on top of the engine block. It cannot be seen superficially because it is being covered by ruber tubes and pipes..We replaced it and voila, the temp reached to normal. The new sending unit cost was just 3 USD...tsk tsk tsk...

It was difficult to reach and you have to use a deep 12mm socket with a 6inch extender....hew!

I thought I can move on to the repaint but the mechanic saw some drops of coolant on the ground. He removed the engine protector shield below and saw the leak coming from the lower part of the radiator. The plastic part holding the lower part of the radiator has some cracks. He recommended me to a radiator shop who will remove the lower plastic part and replace / seal it with a brass body...cost = 100USD...I will probably bring it there next weekend.
 
Its good to hear that you found the problem with the temp gauge - and it was a cheap fix :thumbup:

As is normal though . . . The next problem is just around the corner :)

Aside from knowing that the sup was an ex- toyota elec man, I saw one of his gadgets...the most sought after OBDII scanner...12USd per plug and scan vs Toyota's 70 USD.
GAsket of the engine cover seems to be leaking some oil also. I will have that addressed after 2k kms more just in time for oil change.
I also placed a fuel injector cleaner last weekend vs a tank of gas....will observe developments for now.

...it was not IBM...but I worked with Intel before :)...problems are just a 5-step process but teh budget now is way too much different.. :o
 
I just did my oil change today.
Used Shell fully synthetic 5+ liters (5w-40) but before that, we used 3 liters of engine oil flush from caltex ( ran for 2 mins) ...
then used oil filter code 111 from VIC. Hopefully, it will clean the engine.
 
just replaced my PCV valve...still rattling but 13 years I think is enough. I also changed my fuel filter with part number 23300-62030...not available in auto supplies...just from the Toyota dealership.

some help needed:

1. i would like inquire what are the symptoms of worn out lower control arm bushings ( LCA).... it is the lone set of bushings i have not replaced in my front suspensions...i still hear clunks from turning on curves slowly and some bumps....

2. i have checked my u-joints and have not noticed any significant play...don't you think it's time to replace them all just for preventive maintenance? ...13+ years should have taken its toll already...

some updates with my prado v6..

1. replaced both my lowers control arm bushings...the clunks when turning and on minor bumps were completey gone
2. used seafoam on my gas tank
3. used seafoam using the pcv hose to clean then plenums
4. installed airlift 1000 a week ago- bottoming out completely solved - used model for 4runner
5. bypassed radiator and installed hayden trans cooler..


so far so good.

i think i have the same low temp problem, we are fron the same area, can you point me to your shop of the ex-toyota mech?
i have 97 v6 prado...

this may be to jog your memory, but i am seeing similar leak on my Prado's transfer box. did the application of epoxy hold the leak or did you have to open up the cover to reapply the gasket.
 
Any pics of the airlift kit you installed, and details?
