I did a bit of research a while back and prices seemed to be around =A31800, so on the face of it that's a very good deal. (The installations I saw suggested an mpg improvement of 30% to 40% at best.)

Do you have any more info?

Christopher Bell

Here is a cut and paste of the quote I got back in Dec 2003. At the time it didn't seem worth it - but =A3510 definitely would be.

nteed.
esitate to call me.

Hi Derek,
You have not given much info on the kit you mention but the best
engineered kit I have seen is MSD digital Propane injection
http://www.msdignition.com/2005/2005_13.htm it uses a computer
controlled needle valve to deliver LPG based on inputs from throttle
position and boost pressure. It also has several well thought out
safety features. You can download the manual for it from MSD's website
and also a datalogging program to use with it as well for free.
The only downside is it is not available for cruisers. If MSD was
supplied the parameters for a cruiser such as rpm output signal, TPS
sensor output, std boost, std power and torque I can't see why they
could not burn a program for landcruisers.
As long as the quantity of LPG added is not too aggressive it has good
benefits, virtually eliminates soot from engine oil, typically improves
exhaust emmissions by 1-2 euro levels, eliminates visible smoke,
improves engine life. Get too aggressive and it will all end in tears.

Derek,
That looks like =A31500 to me, not =A3500.

Hi Guys
I was of the opinion that LPG was bad for the engine at least that is what a lot of people said years ago and thats why it has not caught on to any extent. Also what about exploding tanks when involved in a crash. I cant remember when I last heard of a conversion to LPG but then I cant remember a lot of other things aswell.
So if that price is correct for a full kit conversion by them and including the tank seems a really good deal.
If it does give 30 to 40% extra miles per litre and is good for the engine, what is the catch. Would I be right in saying its also cheaper at the pumps .
There must be some draw backs somewhere to this otherwise we would all be driving our cruisers with LPG in the tank and saving a bundle of cash. So why then convert to Bio Diesel if this is the bees knees.
I stand to be corrected at your leisure.

John,
The gas kit for a diesel is not a conversion, it is an injection
system that puts gas in to the cylinders with the diesel. This causes
the diesel to burn more efficiently, hence the fuel saving.
I have not heard of a total conversion for diesel, I stand to be corrected.

Hi Clive
OK so its only petrol engines that can be converted totally. So is it as
good for petrol engines in its pure form as it is for the diesel engines
when mixed with diesel fuel.

John,
Propane burns cleaner than petrol or diesel so is better for the
engine. It is not so good for starting as petrol so the reccomendation
is to start on petrol and switch to propane when running. One of the
side advantages is increased range, both for diesel and petrol, as the
gas that you carry is extra energy to the usual amount. The One
question I have not asked yet is how a mechanically driven fuel pump,
that is lubricated by the fuel going through it, can be happy when
there is no fuel going through it, as in a petrol conversion. The pump
would still run but without lubrication.
Regards, Clive.

Well mine (petrol) has been running on LPG for the past 4 years with no
apparent ill effects.

Hey Clive
Just this minute got a quote for a conversion kit for the cruiser ? 665. I
have asked him to see if that includes fitting and a tank. But then lets
forget about Petrol, diesel, LPG or any other fuel that you have to pay for
. Check out item 8037538525 it even has good reviews so I reakon Ill have to
buy it.

Hey Clive
Seems like im picking on you tonight but nobody else wants to talk.
Got work back from the LPG man and the price of ?665 includes a tank and
delivery, he obviously thinks im in the UK.
He will Fit it aswell and the cost would be ?1124 for the D-BES system what
ever that is. Or item no 8036521754 on ebay has a kit but says something
about vabourLPG so leave that thinking to you.

John,
The 'run on water con is not worth going into. The LPG one is
probably part of a full system. The gas for Diesel engines has to be
gaseous, the gas for petrol engines has to be liquid. This in reality
means taking the gas from either the top, or the bottom, of the tank.
The rest of the stuff that you need is not cheap. The gas containers
are specially made for shape, not just any old cylinder. I think a gas
conversion needs a lot of thought. You would have to own the car for a
good few years to break even. I am starting to favour Bio-diesel and
am collecting bits to give it a go. The tax rules for it are quite
interesting if you are not quite 'proper'.
Regards, Clive.
