Yes, it's a great trip. We used the Vibraction route and it was excellent and easy to follow. It was summer when we did it and the driving was mostly straightforward in the dry. If you go in the rainy season you will need a good set of mud tyres and carrying recovery kit would be sensible. The western end of the journey is a bit pedestrian after the delights of the high routes but pleasant enough with some interesting places. In all, well worth the trip.
