question about tyre size?

Hi All,
I have a 70 series land cruiser Short Wheel Base(KZj70).
Does anyone know the maximum tyre size you can fit on the standard chrome
wheels and on the KZJ70/LJ70 without wheel rub, my vehicle has OME springs
Been looking at getting the tyre size of 33x12.5x15 size tyres, my friend
already has the 32x11.5 with no rub and are fitted to the same wheels and
has no problem's.
The rims are 15x7, the tyres specification for the 33's states 8.50 - 11.00
rims, but the 32x11.5x15 are 8.00 - 10" rims.
Will the type be popping off when offroad or if I get myself in an extreme
situation if 33's are fitted?
Thanks
Martin.

Was it something I said ;-)
It's gone extremely quiet, went with the 32's to be on the safe side...

Martin,
I kept quiet as I have only ever used the metric tyre dimensions, I can
convert them but it would not be proper knowledge, which is what I think you
were after.

Hi Clive,
Yes I hate the tyre conversion its confusing...
Probably would have got away with the 33x12.50x15 tyres, although they would
have protruded from the vehicle a bit more I suppose.
>From what I understand, 33 is the height 12.50 is the width and 15 is
obviously the wheel size, now the other type of size is a different story.
265x75x15 is something I never understood J.
The 75 is done in percentage or something like that, maybe someone else can
explain?
Cheers
Martin.

Hi Martin
The first number is in mm and the second is the percentage of the first as your rightly pointed out and then the third is the rim size.
cheers

I think John is right but to elaborate 265mm is the width in mm, 75 % is the height of the tire compared to width (each side of the rim) in mm BUT the rim is in inches so the overall height is (265*0.75*2)+(15*25.4)=3D397.5+381=3D778.5mm or about 30.6=E2=80=9D?
33=E2=80=9D is 832mm.
Another size system is things like 7.5R16 which is a full profile ie 100% so equates to 31=E2=80=9D total diameter.
