If they have stripped the engine the broken rocker can still be super
glued back into one and the engine wound by hand, soon prove if it was
over tight.

Benoit,
As I said in an earlier post, you can buy short adaptor cables
for the 13 pin socket, to power it from a 7 pin.

Benoit did respond - something along the lines of a pathological dislike of
adaptors on one side and a wish to abstain from intimate relationships with
his Toyota dealer on the other side, I think he might be heading towards a
new plug on the trailer.

I don=92t think I said they did. Options a) get the vehicle wiring altered
for a 13 pin plug, b) used an adaptor c) fit one or two 7 pin plugs on the
trailer. Sorry Toyota dealer wasn't mentioned for the rewire, - my poor
memory and something in the phrasing of the post made me think it, anyway
Benoit phrased the question much better;
Can anybody with good english like you guys tell clearly to me why anybody
want 13 wires and why should I get butt cheeks tightened to put rewires in
my hdj80 or just use adaptateur. 13 connections is 6 better than 7 or is
just marketing phrases?

Thanks for the valued input.
Will keep you posted as to the outcome etc
Pick the vehicle up on Saturday morning, then dash to Hollyhead for
the 5pm ferry. Will redden her on the way!

Niall,
As others have mentioned this certainly sounds like a classic story of poor
practice when adjusting the 1HD-FT valve clearances. A distorted guide pin
results in a valve being stuck down and carnage. The guide pin gets
distorted because the correct practice of supporting the bridge whilst
making adjustments wasn't followed.
Don't let them adjust the clearances on the replacement engine!
Is =A3750 a lot to pay for an engine with a claimed lower mileage than your
original? Yes, if you don't have solid evidence of the lower mileage and
service history, perhaps not if you do...
Either way you wouldn't be paying if they hadn't wrecked yours.
Best of luck,
