Hi everyone

I had my rear pinion sealchanged last summer by west coast due to it leaking badly. Ive noticed there is weeping on the flange/ diff to prop? No drips but you can see its damp through the dirt.
Is that normal or is it something to worry about amd get another seal? Hoping theres not an under lieing problem causing it! Im worried with diffs on my 90 as there expensive amd hard to come by 2nd hand if they go haha

Thank you for any help/advice amd apologies if its a silly question

Weeping is not normal no. Not in any sense. Seals should seal completely if in 100% condition. Is prop seal leakage common? Yes fairly. As long as there is oil in there your diff is fine. This doesn't sound bad by any standard

Causes?
Worn seal - but it's new
Cheap seal - I'd think WC would fit genuine
Worn companion flange - it would have to be very worn and WC should have spotted that
Worn outer pinion bearing - possible creating movement in the shaft
Prop issues causing vibration leading to oil seeping through
Loosening pinion nut - not if fitted correctly by WC

Thank you chris ill see how it gets on if it turns to a drip ill take it down and have a new one fitted amd see if any of them could be the cause

Atleast its not a big issue yet!

:text-+1: Also entirely possible but typically the axle seals weep first. Always check the simple cheap things first.
