was thinking that one of those pointing backwards at the top of the
tailgate might make a good rear spoiler...

economy?

These are for sale in Oz, maybe they might act as spoilers, if they can keep
the back window dust free perhaps they reduce turbulence and so reduce drag
as well? they'd be a bit pricey to get shipped here tho'

Someone once said that the spoiler was the most appropriately named of all
car accessories.
Can't see how it would make much difference to our lumps...

Hi Christopher,
Surely a rear spoiler will only increase the fuel consumption?
The only rear spoilers I have seen on 80s that are worth investigating
are the ones that direct air flow down from the roof line across the
rear window reducing the amount of spray and much that gets blown up
onto it.

I'm not sure. Certainly mine sucks up a lot of spray at the back, and
all that turbulence costs diesel, so maybe an airflow diverter would
help.
But you are probably right: you want the rear airflow to converge, not
diverge. Possibly Handley-Page trailing edge flaps would be better...
