Redex diesel fuel treatment

When I filled up at our local Morrisons a few months back they had some
"get 2 for the price of 1" Redex diesel fuel streatment stuff on the
shelf.

The truck had just passed its MoT, but the emissions were up on the year
before's test, so I thought - "maybe the injectors are gummed up, I'll
give it a go". I've been adding it every tank full since.

For a while I couldn't see any difference at all in performance,
economy, smoothness, etc. But about 2 tanks full ago, which is four or
five tanks since I started using it, I found myself thinking "the old
girl is going well today", and I still think that. Smoother, definitely
accelerating better, and generally feeling more responsive. Fuel
economy is unchanged though.

Now I realise that this is a totally subjective judgement, and that
possibly Redex have simply found an additive that seeps through the fuel
system and addles the brain of the driver! But I always fill up at the
same place, and do much the same things with the vehicle, and this is
the only thing I can think of that could account for the change.

Just my 2p's worth (and no, I don't work for Redex), but I thought I'd
share my experience. I shall definitely go on using the stuff.

Sounds interesting.
I guess a true test would be to go back to the testing garage and ask them to check the exhaust again.
I've noticed my car going better at this time of year but,
Put it down to the colder weather.
Cheers,
Julian

Hey Christopher
Just a tad off the original topic but I was using the Millers Diesel Plus
for ages and as usual I cant get it here so I had to pay more to get it
posted.
But I used it regularly and thought that I would get no problems with all my
injectors, pump etc.
But I did when the cold start thingy fell into the pump and cost a lot to
get fixed.
So now im not too sure if using the Millers works.
I have some left but have not seen or felt any difference since I stopped
using it a few months ago.
So are my injectors going to give problems now without the Millers, I dont
know but wish I did.

It'll be back there next year for its MoT, I can wait till then (at =A350/time).

Maybe. It hasn't really been that cold here in Devon (and no snow either - sniff).
It could just be that they switched over to Winter diesel, or maybe it's this new wonder placebo additive ...

Who knows. It's very difficult to prove a negative!
I don't think Redex claim any effects on the pump, they just whitter on about the injectors giving a better spray pattern. I can only imagine that one (or more) of mine was a bit blocked and has now freed up. They also claim that it has "cetane enhancers"
One advantage of the high fuel price in mainland UK is that the extra cost of about =A32 to =A33 per tank full for the stuff pretty much disappears in the noise of filling up a TLC!

Hi Christopher,
I would be tempted to ask them to just test the exhaust - if you mention your
'experiment' they may be willing to do it for free just for their own interest -
my local chap certainly would.
