Refurbing Front Axle swivels

Hi
About to fit new swivel seals to front axle on 80 series, but the swivel balls are quite badly pitted. In a cost no object sittuation I would replace the axle casing, but I'm trying to repair this on a buget. Has anyone tried a scim of 'plastic metal' over their rusty balls then a careful sand off to fill the pit marks so the new seals will hold grease ?????

Hello ive never tried this but it may work. if you post this in the 80 section you might get a better response.

I've seen on mud somebody painted their swivels after sanding them smooth. I think the swivels were painted from the factory, as mine have paint at the top where the seal does not rub. After a few thousand miles, the paint had worn through in the straight ahead position, but elsewhere it looked fine. i suppose the question is, how bad are your swivels?
