Reimporting vehicle to the UK

You folk seem knowledgeable about importing/exporting of vehicles, so hoping you can help.

My Mum's car (MX-5) was UK "born"/first registered (S reg I think). She exported it to France a couple of years ago, and it's now a French registered car. Due to my Dad's recent sudden and unexpected death she now needs to reimport and register it in the UK. It is in fact back in the UK already, but on a French plate/insurance.

Can anyone let me know what the process for this is, and whether it's any easier because it was once a UK registered vehicle?

Its fairly straight forward.

I imported my 80 series around five years ago without any problems.

Lots of information at the DVLA website.. (Note cars over 10 years old are not subject to VAT, so cost will be £55 + car tax etc..).

I found the easiest was to call my local DVLA office and request some advice - they were extremely helpful and talked me through the jargon. The french equivalent of the V5 was all I had, so if you've got that it should be fine!
