Renata's birfs!

Renate,
My birfs (CV joints) have been clicking for 2-3 years now and I wheel quite
a bit.
Only click when in low gear and turning on front. If front locked and turn
'harder' then get clicking louder.
So don't worry that they are about to go pop.
I have repacked my front axle and replaced bearings and helped a little but
clicking still there.
Will repack again and this time switch the cages from side to side (supposed
to help for awhile)
So -I'd say - go wheel and have fun.
Wish I was there
PS just wheeled here locally in 1-3ft of snow - was some fun :)

Just a quick note - although I won't be planning to do much off-roading with
you guys, mainly because of the exhaust and the CV Joints being replaced at
some point within the next two weeks, I am prepared to pop along and meet up
with you all.
Is this okay?
(I can't NOT bring my Beast, can I...?)
Cheers

The Lal
Well, you know how it is - Julian and Gareth (and probably the rest of
those that I commune with) will confirm that I'm the world's greatest
worrier when it comes to the Beast. Well, it is now the oldest on the
list...and I have to give my TLC loads of TLC...
I think the Birfs began clicking whilst I was in Italy. I was at a
conference but got p****d off with them so legged it to the nearest
Alpine mountain retreat where I was caught in one humdinger of a storm -
so the roads and mountain passes became raging torrents, had a few
problems with retaining the tyre grip but then, my tyres needed
replacing and have now been replaced, all four of them, so their grip is
much better now in the wet.
Not one for aquaplaning into a roundabout in France...I did just this,
found myself careering into the nearest roundabout on the way to either
Caen or LeHavre (okay, okay, I missed my ferry despite driving in near
total darkness, breaking all the speed limits known in France, and in
the storms too, arriving an hour and more after the last ferry had
left....i.e. 12.50 in the morning, last ferry from Caen 11.30 pm....).
By this time the rain had spread to France big time after I'd spent a
few days with some off-roaders in Biarritz, La Rahla Des Amicales des
Sahara (a reuninion) were there too - seems by reputation got there
before me....."Ah so you're the one who had that professional difference
with Muzzolini!" now you are talking 2000 when I first met this guy (and
yes, he is related to that Italian Despot Mussolini). Alfred was the
archetypal french monolith of Libyan Rock Art. It was expected that
sparks would fly but I thought it had all died down - apparently
not...anyways, I had a good time with them, and we had some friends of
ours staying over from Niger, they are tuaregs, and also one of my
bestest Tuareg friends who'se Algerian (from Tamanrasset) was there too
with his sister.
So it was good for me to be surrounded by them again and I forgot how
much I missed them. I mean, really missed them, they are as brilliant
in the desert as they were in France. All the memories came flooding
back. I left and shed a few silent tears as I went.
I actually was toying with the idea of throwing in the towel and
spending 9 months in France at the time. It never happened as I had
responsibilites here in the UK.
Colorado is a bit far away isn't it?.... for the EU landcruser
list?...glad you are contributing - its nice to have so many different
countries contributing.
Keep in touch
