I'm still here.
No desert related stuff on the ELCO list (I already have LRFTS, snorkel
etc) my interest/obsession = desert, if it doesn't concern deserts,
dunes, or desert massifs then there is no contributing
Sorry guys
In sum:-
The only thing to say now is that I have made plans to have a series of
mods over two years done - all desert related, no cosmetics - mods are
utilitarian only. Frogs Island in Abingdon are doing them. They
prepare Expedition Vehicles. They are specialists in their field. At
the end of the day I'm an African Archaeologist who works in the Sahara.
My toyo was and is being modified for one thing only - the desert
This year I'm going to Botswana, the Kalahari, Zambia and North Africa

Hi John, Yup, you could say so. Well, more challenge then adventure,
but there are elements there of serious adrenalin adventure too.
l'beast is me, and me is da beast, this is how it is. I'm serious
about Africa, have been for oh, about 10 years now.
The sun always shines in North Africa, and the heat on the back is
welcome, a comfort, ambient temperature is good too.
In other parts of Africa, the sun also shines, it rains too but passes
very quickly and then it is warm and dry again.
I may plod in the mud but in sand the opposite is true - both mud and
sand is dangerous - I prefer the latter.

Actually, I'm not back on the list as I never really left, just that
nothing that interests me to obsession level came up in the subject
fields recently, and I don't have anything to contribute anyway.

Hi Renate,
Good to hear from you.
Do let me know how you get on with them - would be interested to see
the quality of their work.

What I've seen so far is impressive on the vehicles already in the
preparation stage, and this is not lightly said by the likes of me, as I
have exacting standards, as you'd expect - its quality stuff, and I will
certainly keep you informed, but it will take a couple of years to have
all of it finished as funds are limited.
I'm still in mind of those CD copies and I will send discs to you, next
time I remember...
How is the toyo manual book hunting going on? any developments here?

Hi Renate,
OK, do keep me informed - personally from what I have seen I haven't
been that impressed, but I suspect that things have improved.
See note to group.

Hi Renate et al
Hope all is well. I have no axe to grind with any company that prepares 4x4s
for overseas trips but I have recently heard of an 80 series car that is
currently stranded in Mauritania with broken rear springs simply because the
ones that were fitted were not man enough for the job. I believe (but cannot
be 100% sure at the moment) that the car is quite heavy at the back with a
twin Kaymar, LRFT plus plus, and I do know the car was prepped by Frogs
Island but is being rescued by someone else. Cannot confirm but it seems the
wrong springs were chosen and fitted. Might be worth just asking as much as
can as work progresses.

Hi Jeremy,
That doesn't surprise me. I get the impression that they don't know
that much about LCs yet they claim that they specialise in them.

Things have improved yes, there was a time where some of the stuff may
have been less than it is now, but I was able to see at close hand what
was going on, and I must say the quality of the build appears good.

I have already had springs and shocks done elsewhere, as too the lrft
and spare wheel carrier.
At this moment for this years scheduled trips only a set of lights are
required with two utility lights at the back, all on a new roofrack.
I am quite happy with past work done on l'beast by other garages. I'm
also after a replacement GPS and am considering either hiring or buying
a Sat Phone
