Replacing 80 series aerial insert

Hi,
Has anyone here replaced the aerial on their 80 with a new insert?
The ones I have done in the past had the aerial and then the plastic
tail, but the replacement I have is just the aerial with a screw thread
on the bottom.
I'm assuming I still have to go to the painful contortions to remove
the main aerial unit and then strip it to replace the aerial?

I too replaced a shaft, giving a purely manual aerial (until I drove
into some string stretched across the drive and broke it again)
buy too, which must be attached to the shaft and then fed into the motor
bit at the bottom of the hole. I'd be fascinated to learn how to do
this if you succeed...
