Guys
Just some advice wanted, is it best to take out the whole window motor
and clean it up? or would it be best to 'recondition' the whole unit ?
and if so, what would be the best cleaning fluids etc. Its got fine
sand in it from the sahara, and I haven't got around to cleaning it
yet.
Afterwards I think I may need to replace the window seals.

Hi Renate,
Depends on budget - I would always go for a strip down first and then
work from there.
You can get some very good contact cleaner that will work well for
clearing grime out, but start with an air line to blow the bulk of it
out.
I would also look at regreasing all the joints - you can get a 'dry'
grease for the joints which will help avoid attracting more sand.
Also look at giving the seals a good scrub to clear the dirt away and
then use a silicone spray like 'back to black' to 'lubricate' them to
help the window slide and repel moisture.
Some have also said that using something like Armorall is good for
perking up tired rubber seals, although I haven't tried it.
