Hi Guys
Just took delivery of 3 sockets to power my gadgets sourced from SailGB.
They sent me cig lighter sockets and while the plugs of the gadgets will fit
in them, they are loose and not as tight a fit as with the cig socket on the
dash.
Are the DIn sockets slightly smaller than the Cig sockets on the inside
where your plug would fit.
Is the cig socket on the dash a cig socket or a Din socket.
cheers

Hi Roman
Thanks for the reply, is the socket in the dash a standard socket or a din
socket.
Are most plugs you get with things for the 12v ,standard or din plugs.
See I have all these gadgets that I want to use and the sockets I got today
seem to be that bit too big. So would I need the din sockets instead.

Look up your invoice. If it were DIN Sockets or DIN Power Sockets, it
should say so.

Hi Roman
They are lighter sockets not Din sockets. But what I cant understand is if
these are lighter sockets and the socket in the dash is a lighter socket why
o why do the plugs from my gadgets fit tighter in the dash socket and are a
looser fit in the lighter sockets I bought. The sockets both Din and lighter
say they will take standard plugs but if they are slightly different sizes
internally how can this be the case.
cheers
john

John,
Looks like a quality issue. You may try to reshape the ground spring
on your gadget plugs to make them fit tighter but again it depends on
the design of the plug. Perhaps there's a springy element in the
socket that maybe reshaped?
DIN plugs (with an adapter) will fit standard sockets, standard plugs
will never fit DIN sockets.

Hi John
Cig lighter sockets are not really standard. I have this issue on my
Ford galaxy whereby cig plugs fit snugly into the rear sockets but will
not hold at all in the front one.
Only the DIN sockets are a truly standard size.

John, I would reccomend using DIN plugs and sockets, bought from the same supplier. Get some from RS - Radio Spares, they sell a lot of good stuff or use Vehicle Wiring Products.
Both outfits have online catalogues.
Or do want me to source some for you - plus some cable - and you can collect it all from me ?
Gareth.

Hi Guys
I really dont know why I bother at times its more hassle over stupid things
that really get me confused.com, if you know the ad on the telly. Anyway so
I have all these gadgets that i want to use and bought the lighter sockets
thinking that they would be the same as the lighter socket in the dash. But
o no of course thay cant be the same that would make life too simple and
easy for poor old JB now wouldn't it. So do I go for the Din sockets ,
exchange the lighter sockets and hope that the Din sockets are the right
fit. Thanks for the offer Gareth when im over but I have the wire and the
clips and every thing else but not it would appear not the right sockets

John, I would fit DIN sockets in my vehicle and DIN plugs to all my appliances. I would also make up an adaptor with a cigarette plug at one end, a short length of cable, and a Din socket at the other.
With this you can use any one of your "toys" in another vehicle that only has cigarette sockets.
Good luck !!
Gareth.
