Done this job myself a while back. kinda funny how we act and respond to working on cruisers.

 
I ended up dropping the tank when I did mine. I think he got off lightly
 
I did one recently on the latest project 80. It was a real Bas***d to do. The problem was more getting it off, it does have to come off with the bracket. I did get it off without shearing any bolts using heat, but then the bolts through the valve itself were impossibly rusted in.
There is something I learnt though, if you're putting the bracket back on use longer boltsfor the top two, they go in easy, it took about 10mins to re instate , and that if the LSV is seized then it can easily be dis assembled in situ, ( its a very simple thing) and quickly unseized and re assembled in minutes, therefore the bracket does not have to be removed.
Note, as Chris mentioned, it helps greatly if the tank is dropped a bit for access to the top two bolts.
