Stainless Steel Exhaust,3"

Peter,
No idea yet about 1) and 2)
3) - No
4) I'm not quite sure about all this 3 inch business as the diameter
of the manifold is still the same. I suppose it's about reduced
turbulence in a tube with a bigger diameter, but I am not into the
science behind exhaust pipes :)
5) Terminating the exhaust pipe in front of the rear wheel eliminates
flow restriction caused by squishing and, I suspect, does more for
performance than a bigger diameter full length pipe
6) I think the big silencer box is still good enough.

Peter,
I think it is one of the Powershot franchises that made up Gareth's and
I think another that made up the ones sold by Frogs.
If it isn't I wouldn't bother.
They shouldn't either way - the LR tank is designed to fit around a
factory exhaust - a 3" system should do the same.
Mufflers/silencers work in a number of different ways, some more
restrictive than others - you just make sure that you get the right
combination.
Also as Roman had pointed out the outlet of the Turbo is around 2.5" -
to get the full benefit from a 3" exhaust you also want to get a 3"
outlet from the Turbo - Maarten is your man for that.
A 3" exchaust doesn't need to be squished to get over the rear chassis
member - it may be a bit of a bastard to fit, but it will fit!
Again this comes down to the types of silencers imployed in the system.
As Roman has pointed out side exiting exhausts are an option. Some
people coomplain about soot buildup on the rear wheels, but I doubt it
would be a big problem.
If you are looking for a large bore side exiting exhaust, look over at
France, there are a number of companies over there that sell them in
stainless steel - I'll try to flick through my French 4x4 mags to dig
out some coontact details and then perhaps you might be able to
pursuade Benoit to make some enquiries for you ;-)

OK I would like to help if that is need be. Just be certain that I get
your mel because some times I fall back in elco list reading, so send
mel to me direct.
I think that there is lot of good stainless stuff for sales in France
but here we have terrible prices.
