Sudden power loss

Problem fixed. No engine fault codes found. I was recommended a company called Harrington Autos In Havant. Guys suspected autobox. Turned out that the atf was dirty and overfilled. Full oil change and refill and problem has gone. Can't recommend them enough.

I haven't posted to this thread for a while. I though the problem had disappeared after the oil change, it hadn't! Re-occurred after 2 or 3 days. Had the oil changed again a month later to get rid of more old oil. It improved again for a short while. Had the engine codes read, no faults. I took her to an autobox specialist in Reading. They hooked her up and despite the power dropping whilst they were driving, no fault codes on engine or gearbox.
Last week I decided to bite the bullet and pull the TPS out. Sealed unit! Shit or bust time so I cut the unit open and cleaned the tracks with contact cleaner and put a bit more pressure on the contacts. Araldited it back together and refitted. Moment of truth, started her up and it seemed ok.

After a week still no faults. She seems to have more power, more responsive and the kickdown seems to come in earlier. Fingers crossed that I have finally fixed the issue.

Just clocked over 200000 as well today.:)

TPS seems to be a common issue here - the 5VZ-FE can have a low-power situation that many have suffered from and replacing or cleaning the TPS has resolved it for many cases.

I wonder is that a problem specific to the auto? The TPS would of course be vital to the box shifting and kicking down... It's not something I've heard about on manuals

Would not be surprised. Whilst the A343F has a 'kickdown' cable I think it's not used for this rather just to control fluid pressure. Since shifts are controlled electronically the TPS is the only way of knowing throttle demand, since the transmission has no sensors just the three solenoids.
