Sunday in BBNPA

Many thanks to all those tha came along and made it such an enjoyable day
out. Hopefully the "eventful" end to the day didn't dampen the enthusiasm?
I found the trip VERY enjoyable as did SWMBO and the rest of my brood, the
Gap was a bit more slippery than it was last week and was quite
"interesting". It's a damn shame that we've now almost certainly lost this
fantastic lane for good!!
I'd be very greatful if all those taking part could give me feedback with
their honest opinions of the day? Good points, bad points, was the day too
long, was the nature of the day what you expected, or better, or worse, etc.
Would you come along on any future trips? I can use the information to
improve the planning of any future trips.
For those that don't yet know, I managed to get Chas' LC started again just
after 8pm and I've heard that he then got home safely and without further
drama just after 10. He now just has to get it dried out again!!
I haven't heard from Renate yet but I'm assuming she got home OK?
My thanks to Adrian, Mark and John for pulling my Cruiser "back from the
brink" as it were!!
My thanks also to Ian for recovering Chas' crippled Cruiser back to
civilisation.
Andrew (not LC nor ELCO) blew a head gasket just outside Merthyr and was
unable to join us. I've heard that the RAC got him home OK.
Once again, many thanks to one and all.

Pete,
Thanks for organising a very enjoyable day out. I am unaware of
the drama you mentioned as I chose to leave early to get home at a
reasonable time. I hope everyone had as good a day as Glen and myself.
I also hope that any sick cars are not too much frief for their
owners. Once again, thanks.
Regards, Clive.

If anyone from 'the gap weekend' has any pics. they can send I would
appreciate it, I was without a camera. Thanks.
Regards, Clive.

Can I echo that request please.
Any pictures / videos would be very gratefully received.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the hammering on my starter motor which eventually decided to
turn itself over and fire up the Hippo. When I arrived home the remote
which had also got wet would not open my garage doors, I had to phone my
wife indoors to come and operate it from the inside, and without thinking I
switched off the engine while I waited for the door to rise, as soon as I
had I thought 'Oh! no!! but luckily it fired again first time.
Glutton for punishment that I am, I would love to do something similar
again, but hopefully without getting my feet, and everything else wet. Mind
you it was your fault I found myself in that predicament in the first place,
if you hadn't said Chris had gone through that water filled hole when he had
actually, unseen to me, around it, I would never had attempted it myself.
My undying thanks to everyone concerned with my recovery especially to Ian
for a truly epic tow back down a mountain, in the dark, with no power
steering or brakes, and imagined sheer drops at every turn, it was dark
remember, this was one SCARY drive, it was many miles, literally, many
thanks Ian.
Thanks too Peter for videoing me at the Blown Bridge, it came out great, I
thought at one point in the film I was about to run you down, that must have
been why it went a bit wobbly as you were trying frantically to escape from
my erratic path.
The length of the day and the nature were absolutely fine, I'd do it again
tomorrow if the Cruiser were dry, Please, if anyone has pics of me bonnet
deep in that muddy hole please forward to me at [Email address removed]

Well John, so far today the starter motor has not let me down, but the alarm
has died, although I can still lock the doors on the key, some of the lights
are doing funny things, the carpets go squelch and my box of old
irreplaceable cassettes is dripping mud, and various orifices (or is that
orifi) are full of muddy water. But am I downhearted, just a little
perhaps.

Chas,
Have you removed the rubber plugs in the floor (footwells and near
B-posts) to drain the water?

I wish to echo the general concensus, a great day out. Glad you got home OK
Chas, as you said that was a long and tricky tow. Thanks to Toby for the
loan of his Landcruiser while mine is having an extended stay at a garage -
long story, don't ask. I have added some pictures to Peters thread on
Difflock.

Hey Chas
Ah now I see the problem you got yourself into.
I must make a mental note not to follow the fella with the sign on his rear
window I can go anywhere.
Same colour cruiser as mine apart from the muddy colour.
Hopefully the starter will keep up its good behavier for you.
Its a good job you have the snorkel or you may have real trouble.

Hi John,
Well normally Cruisers can go anywhere but there's an exception to every
rule, but to see an, I think impressive, Cruiser feat look at this link,

This was obviously taken before the ducking, it's not a very good quality
clip, the original is but it lost some in the transfer to Youtube.

Nice one Chas.
The wobbly bit is caused by me suddenly realising how close Chas is and
trying to scramble up the hillside and out of the way! :)
For the record did you have any lockers engaged for that climb? I forgot to
ask you.

it.

Got home safely - realised there is quite a bit of damage on the step,
driver side, but not to worry, I'm not fussed about that. The gearbox got a
hell of a lot of stick; so far it seems to be working okay, but I am worried
that it has sustained damage, the starter motor got some stick too, and the
bone-shaking felt as if l'beast would start breaking up, so I'm just waiting
and hoping l'beast hasn't sustained any serious, long-lasting damage,
because if it has, I'm going to be asking for some considerable help with
mending it from a few of you! So I hope you won't mind this?, and by the
way, I'm not regretful of the day, nor am I blaming any of you - I wasn't
expecting the day to pan out the way it did, because if I had known, I
wouldn't have done it!
A good day methinks, but totally unexpected - I did it with no RR-FR diff
which some said I couldn't do the gap without it, but just to prove them
wrong...I did it.
The damage that Clive thought was due to nose-ending into the stream bit was
old damage, so don't worry about that Clive.
Thanks Pete, for a good day
Regards
Renate

I'm glad you got home OK Renate - I was beginning to be worried by your
silence! ;-)
To be fair though, I did put up links to a video and some pictures of the
Gap so that everyone at least had an idea of what to expect! ;-)
Seriously, I'm glad you enjoyed it - we'll do some serious and more extreme
lanes next time for you! :)
