I'm just heading for a different weekend in the mud, sadly not trying out my
LC.
Hope you all have a good day, would like to be there and meet some new faces
and hats off to the organisers.
I will bore you with tyre questions next week....
Insurance/alarm still rumbling but guess I will have to fit something

Hi all
Sounds like Sunday was fun and I'm sorry to have missed it.
Been catching up on the posts and looking at the pictures so thanks for
those.
Now that I'm back behind a desk for a bit I just wondered if some of you
could assist...
Diff locks. I have on my car a dash mounted switch for ACT (haven't really
been able to see how well it works yet) and a dash mounted push button for
the centre diff. The centre diff also comes on automatically in low range. I
also have the push/rotary switch for the front and rear lockers. This is all
stuff everyone knows but my question is as follows. I have yet to use the
diff locks in anger (had the car less than a month) but I have tested them
out. Am I right to engage the centre lock in N or P when stationary? It
doesn't always come on straight away so maybe it is sticking. No such
problem when engaging low range as centre locks with a vengeance. Also the
rear and front lockers flash away and then engage after moving for a bit.
Just wondered if someone could me chapter and verse on lockers on/lockers
off and how the 80's system works. (I'm fine about when to use them as have
experience with other 4x4s but just wanted to know more about TLCs foibles.
Also in low ration, does the auto box still go through 1,2,D or is it just a
single low range speed? That's what mine feels like at the moment...
Sorry Julian, long and maybe excessive.

SHDJ81V, so far with only a full tank of diesel, and a loud CD/radio system.
Overland mods start in Jan 2005!

Hi Jeremy,
Do you mean ECT - this is for putting the Auto box into a 'sport mode' so that
it changes slightly later.
OK, that is as expected. If you want there is a Pin 7 mod that you can do so
that the Centre diff only comes on when the button is pressed, over riding the
auto on in low range.
You should be able to engage it any time whilst driving, you shouldn't need to
have to go into neutral or Park.
As far as I recall most diff locks only come on when the diff gears are
correctly aligned, this might occur immediately or can take a while.
That sounds fine.
No, in Low range you still have the same gears, but the box appears to hold
onto the gears a lot longer so you end up really revving it. The trick is to
rev a bit and then back off to encourage the box to change up.

Very helpful, thanks very much...

Details of the mod would be nice.

Hi,
Take a look at:
http://www.sleeoffroad.com/technical/tz_cdl_pin7mod.htm
The only difference being that the unit is on the right hand side of
the drivers footwell behind a big silver coloured ECU - you will need
to remove this ECU (four screws) to get at the Transmission Relay
behind it.

A bit late, I know, but where you going tomorrow? I have the same LC as you.
I'm in Norfolk, not far from Fakenham, but I've done a bit round Soham and
the fens. If not tomorrow, perhaps later?
