Hi all,
If anyone's interested in a rugged pc with a finger/pen operated
interface for running navigation software, Toyota EPC and storing
workshop manuals in the pdf format, please take a look at item #
180240204108.
This pc can also be expanded with some add-on goodies, like a bolt-on
gps receiver, internal wifi, gprs modem, etc.
I've bought one the other day and found it pretty good.

Yep those ruggedized laptop are heavy but reliable and sturdy machines, a
bit slow occasionally and usually benefit from having more memory.
So I don't deviate this thread into a computer discussion :)
I have fitted a laptop with a cracked screen into my cruiser.
Purchased an 8" touch screen(USB) and a GPS aerial(USB again) and it works
great.
Bit trickery soldering the wire for the switch onto the laptop as those
things are microscopic, the switch is installed in the front of the vehicle
so I can power it on and off.
Power comes from a Maplin laptop power supply fed from the battery.
Works great and I was able to recycle the cracked screen laptop, although
it's not rugged and I fear it may bounce the hard drive if I off road it too
much with the laptop on.
Don't know if I would trust it to take me to Africa though, a rugged one is
a much better option.
Regards
Martin.

Roman,
How much was postage from the US? Assuming you bought it from that seller?

I've got a similar setup, but I used a little port replicator, that has a
power switch on it too, so I can reach under the seat, and press that,
rather than having to open the laptop up.

Malcolm,
l bought mine from a UK seller. This guy charges US $42.5 and you
will also have to factor for a hard drive plus OS.
