Hi Julian
I finally found it, that does'nt sound too good but hey. The guy that does
the inter coolers is www.mattsavage.com and he told me it would cost ?730
and I would need to send him my inlet manifold pipe so he can modify it, why
I dont know. Julian sorry again but when you say change the exhaust WHY. Its
just another idea I have been thinking about, mainly because of the
properties of being able to cool the engine more and so reduce the damage.
But the intercooler would kave to pay in better miles, but I dont know by
what amount. Im probably talking through my ----again but this is what
happens when I get information, then file it some where, then try to
remember where I put it, then cant find it, then think I know what the hell
I am talking about, and then when I have sent it via e-mail say to myself
you have done it again you --------. I blame the kids its easier that way
untill they get bigger. Do you remember a while back I was on about sheep
skin seat covers, go on say it hes always on about some thing and then you
delete the e-mail. Well any way as you probably know Ireland has a lot of
sheep, you can see them every where, so I thought ill be able to pick up a
nice set cheap enough being there are so many sheep around. I know that was
a stupid thing to be thinking ya know sheep = pelts to make seat covers. It
looks like I will have to either get them shipped from Aus or the States,
nobody here does them and any one I have found in the UK is either too
expensive or dont do the covers to fit the cruiser. Did you know the cruiser
seats are a little different than most and reallty need to be custom made.
More useless information for you all I know. I wonder what happens to all
those sheep in Ireland.

Hi, Matt savage here (!) I feel a little awkward being on this list and you talking about me, so I thought I'd butt in.
Yes, the intercooler kit for a Toyota 80 is about =A3730. you have to send me the manifold pipe so it can be changed to go to the intercooler.
As your vehicle is at the moment the turbo compresses the air, then there is a big cast ally pipe that goes directly from the turbo, over the engine and into the inlet manifold. With an intercooler fitted the air has to go from the turbo, to the intercooler, and back to the inlet manifold. So we would provide the pipe work to go from the turbo to the intercooler (this is mounted in from of the rad and air con condenser) and then pipes to go from the intercooler to the modified inlet pipe. This is why we need your pipe.
As for the effect of an intercooler, this will give you about 30% more bhp and torque. It'll mainly be the torque you notice. Much better pulling power, and more effortless.
The quickest way to explain what an intercooler does is.....
As the air comes out of the turbo it is about 130 deg C, therefore it is not very dense. The intercooler cools the air to about 30 deg C, this cool air is very denser than the hot air, so you are getting much more air in the combustion chamber. When an intercooler is fitted you also have to slightly increase the fuelling (all detailed in the included instructions) This is the get the fuel to air mixture back to what it should be, but of course now the whole combustion process in much more efficient, so you don't have to put your foot down as much as you used to to go at the same speed. Or put you foot down and go much quicker!
If the fuelling was not increased the mixture would be way to lean, and it would be less powerful.
If you don't use the extra power you will get a few mpg more, but if you do use the extra power then your fuel consumption will be no worse than it is now.

Hi Julian,
I'm a distributor for Allisport Intercoolers. I've been selling these for about 4 years now, and they are excellent kits. We've fitted a few here and I have one on my Discovery. When I have the time I want to put one on my Toyota 80, but it is a little more involved as we have to chop up the inlet pipe. On the Tdi Land Rovers it is much easier as they have a small intercooler already. On vehicles with a normal (mechanical) distributor pump it is very easy to adjust the fuelling. On newer vehicles with electronically operated distributor pumps (fly by wire) the fuelling has to be altered with a fancy plug-in chip. These are real easy to fit just not quite as adjustable

Hi Matt,
OK, I have spoken to Andrew a few times.
Yes, I have been looking into alternative ways of doing it. You can
use the inlet from a 1HZ which is shorter, although they are difficult
to get hold of - perhaps Jon could source some from his wonderful scrap
yards out in Bosnia.
The thing that worries me about the Allisport method of routing the
pipework is that it gets in the way if you want to add more ancillaries
to the front of the engine, particularly on the air compressor side.
