Hi Guys
My cruiser went for the NCT this morning and failed on a few minor things.
I did as I was advised by the group and pressure washed the left and right
sides of the front axel to get rid of all the leaking diff oil and it dident
fail because of this. It failed because of the little wing indicator not
working, I tried to take the cover off but ther is no visable screws so
there must be a trick to it, any one know how to get the indicator lense
off. The left suspension swinging arm bushing needs to be replaced its
worn, what kind of a job is that to do.
Thanks

Oh sorry I assumed you knew
If they are rubber bushes, and you don't have a press, some people in the
landrover fraternity (this may not be just for landies btw) burn out the
rubber bushes, I think by using a blow torch or one of them oxyaeetylene..
Spelling is cr*p on that point.. The one they use to burn holes in steel :)
Anyway..
Replace them with polybushes, I think scorpion racing do them for the LC,
ive got a full set of polys in my disco atm and they apparently will last
longer and give you a better ride.

The indicator slides in a groove of shape

I *think* you push it forwards to undo it, but it may be backwards (although I doubt it, as a brush against something would push it out). Sorry I can't remember.

Jon, good morning and commiserations on failing the test. With regard to
the suspension arm bushes. A set of polyurethane "poly" bushes can be
purchased from Milner supplies here in the UK. I know thet sell complete
vehicle sets whether they sell "corner sets" I have no idea. You will
need to remove the arm get the old bushes out - either using a press and
mandrel , a hacksaw or by burning them out. I prefer to hacksaw them
out. Getting the new ones in may be a bit trickier !! Do you have a
large vice or access to a press ? Steady controlled pressure will force
them in.
My advice - get a full set of bushes for the vehicle - change the
faulty ones -
retest and pass - pressure is off - change remaining bushes at your
leisure as the chances are they have also started to degrade.
At the same time repalce the anti roll bar bushes.
The indicator lamp is, I think, accessed from inside the wheelarch.
Disconnect the wiring see if you push the whole thing out through the
wing to gain access to the bulb. Be careful these little plastic
thingies have a nasty habit of snapping.
Have you got a Haynes workshop manual yet ? If you haven't --- well.
Best of luck - Gareth Jones.

Hi Christopher
Your right it kind of pulls forward and then just pops out, thanks for that
I knew there was a nack to it. I dident want to break it by pulling or
pushing it. Its not the bulbthats gone I thing . The wires have come lose
fron the little connector in the wing and its very hard to find the other
connector part, but ill have a shot.
