thanks for the note, being a strictly non technical chap and with no
mechanical skills I am somewhat at the mercy of those that have those
skills,what is helpfull is that I run our company's research department
which is based here in Portugal, when all this business of overheating came
along I had two of my youngsters research the history of the problem with
the 2,4Ltr Diesel engine, they spent a week analysing every post on internet
sites and every published comment they could find regarding overheating/head
problems.
After presenting me with a huge pile of documents,their analysis came down
to the known head fault ,ie,cracking and some ideas to help prevent this in
the future, thus we have a much larger capacity radiator, a separate ATF
cooler and a few other "tweeks",I suspect the dedicated LC professional
would find much fault with our methodology but,guess what?, it works!.

Hi Chris,
The number one cause of 2LT heads failures would be worn injectors. As
they wear the pattern spreads and spray's all over the inside of the
pre-comb chamber dumping enormous heat into the cylinder head and then
it cracks. Before that point is reached the engine may tend to overheat
as you need more throttle and fuel to make good power as it is wasted in
the head creating heat not getting out into the cylinder creating useful
work. Retarded injection timing is not good for heat either. If you get
carried away improving intake & exhaust efficiency helps.
If power hungry they respond well to a bigger turbo (such as a T3 off a
FJ20 nissan and swap the exhaust housing to a 0.36 A/R ratio as the std
0.48 is too big for the 2LTII) and a big front mount intercooler with
this setup you can get substantial power and torque gains at lower than
stock exhaust temps. It also improves drivability and general response.
