Renate,
thank you for the kind comments, I have no connection or interest in this
local garage except as a very happy client, apparently they have been there
for 40 years, father to son, they still make parts and can( and do!) mend
just about anything including very old agricultural machinery. A visit there
involves a chat with dad and fresh coffee, there's always a few old LC's
there, they used to be a Toyota main dealer, they still have a lot of parts
some of which they used on my old LC.
Somehow it's just nice to deal with people who love what they do and make
you feel welcome, maybe it's because it's remote up here in the hills and
they haven't been exposed to the rip off culture yet, by the way if your
passing Arganil in mid Portugal stop and enjoy the view and some fresh
coffee,
Regards,
Chris.

I will - I might make a detour there next spring, the reason being - there
is some new discoveries of archaeological sites in northern africa and I'm
currently negotiating with officials in for exclusive visitor rights....and
maybe take a handful of undergraduates with me. Its funny how things pan
out because I'm going up to the university of bristol here in the UK this
evening as there is a talk that I'm interested in - am going to do what us
archaeologists do best - have a seminar, a chin-wag and then retire to the
pub for the rest of the evening.....as yer do. Its an excuse for me to do a
spot of socialising - and a bit of market research....
On my way to North Africa I like to amble through Europe and Portugal is a
nice detour. I've been to portugal once, back in 1998, we were based at
Villa Real at the university there. I was there for about two weeks and had
a really good time.
I just wish we had people like your garage folks here in Bristol! it would
make my job a whole lot easier, be far easier on the pocket. There is so
much that I want to do on l'beast before spring.
And I do like my 'proper coffee'...and nice views....(hopefully by spring
l'beast will be fixed)
Regards
